Mouth breather??

Post by blondie » Fri Jul 01, 2011 7:04 pm

Okay dumb question but how do you know if your a mouth breather or nose breather?? The Cpap guy gave me full mask due to thinking I was a mouth breather but I don't know where he got that info. First I have heard of it. Would love a smaller mask.

It could have been written in your sleep report. Just guessing here.

If you had a sleep study the mouth breathing would have shown up with major leaks.

Can you breathe normally exclusively through your nose during the day? Do you have any physical conditions like chronic nasal congestion or deviated septum?

Sometimes people who normally can breathe through their nose during the day just can't keep the mouth closed at night. Unless you can't breathe through your nose there is no reason not to at least try a nasal mask if you wish.
Even diehard mouth breathers can do things to help keep mouth shut..sometimes with great success..sometimes not.

There are no dumb questions. Ask the CPAP guy where he got that impression.
When I had my first sleep test I found out I was a mouthbreather and have been content with FFM rather than trying to learn to keep my mouth shut.
