I want to get a Resmed S9 APAP machine, but I'd like to test it out first by renting.
Does anyone have any suggestions on who to rent from? I've started searching online. However, I do feel like I'm approaching these sources more or less at random, based whatever order they turn up on Google. That may be unavoidable. I've found http://www.advanscpap.com, which rents S9 APAPs. I can always go with them, although I don't know anything about them.

https://www.cpap.com is prominent, and the prices seem good, but apparently they don't rent. There's no mention of it on the web site. http://www.secondwindcpap.com has been praised by some on this forum; but there's no mention of rentals on their web site, either.
Thanks, all, for any help you can provide.
Newbie question: source for renting a Resmed S9 APAP machine
Re: Newbie question: source for renting a Resmed S9 APAP machine
I am curious why you want to rent first? I would check with your insurance if you are using insurance to see what their policy is for new DME purchases. Many insurance companies insist on rental for a period of time to show compliance before they purchase. Its a rent to own deal. I would find out the details of your insurance first.
Now if you are just making an outright purchase...most people are very happy with there S9 Autosets. I know I love mine...then again I have never used any other machine...and my sleep lab used S8 for titration.

If you are expecting insurance to pay you will have to find a local DME that your insurer will work with. If you are paying out of pocket any DME will do. For short term rental that's OK, but expect to pay three or more times the online retail purchase price if you plan to rent long-term!

You have not said whether or not you have had a sleep study. What were the results if any ? Do you have insurance? Are you doing this on your own...or...have you been diagnosed with OSA? None of your posts mention this.Languid wrote:I want to get a Resmed S9 APAP machine, but I'd like to test it out first by renting.

I think cpap.com does do some rentals. I don't believe it is on their website. You could give them a call.

If I wanted to try out (good idea, imho) a particular brand/type of machine and the local DME won't go along with it, then I'd probably give the online place you mentioned a whirl. I've never had any dealings with them myself, but I wouldn't hesitate a moment if renting a machine for a month was what I wanted to do.Languid wrote:I want to get a Resmed S9 APAP machine, but I'd like to test it out first by renting.

Re: Newbie question: source for renting a Resmed S9 APAP machine
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Please excuse me for not getting back to you earlier regarding your questions.
(Please excuse me if I employ incorrect terminology in this post. I'm still learning.)
I've actually gone ahead and placed an order for an S3 rental unit. I found a DME, Apria, with an office nearby. However, I made arrangements with a different office (HQ or regional HQ) over the phone. They'll contact my Medicare insurance provider for approval. I had talked with the insurance provider previously, and my understanding is they don't require me to get the equipment thru any specific local DME. If I'm wrong, I'll find out soon enough.
Perhaps my answers to your questions are now moot, since I've already placed the order. But here they are anyway.
I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea, and have a prescription for a CPAP or APAP machine.
,
I basically have two sets of medical insurance coverage.
1) I have medical insurance coverage thru Kaiser Permanente. It's an individual plan. I pay the monthly premiums out of pocket. I intended to drop Kaiser earlier in the year because of the expense. Quite frankly, I've procrastinated. (I'm not functioning nearly as well as I'd like to be.)
2) I've also been on Medicare since the first of the year, because I'm on disability. However I couldn't get Medicare to cover Kaiser because I don't live near enough to Kaiser. I have Medicare Part C coverage thru Anthem. Strangely enough, there are no monthly premiums for this plan.
Kaiser diagnosed my sleep apnea, but my Kaiser plan doesn't cover a CPAP or APAP machine. But my Medicare Part C plan will cover part of the cost.
There's more to say, but I've been called away for the moment. I'll try later to provide more background info on my situation, either in this thread or in future postings I'm sure to make. Thanks for bearing with a struggling newbie.
