I am having issues with rainout in my hose/mask and am wondering whether it would be better to get a hose cover or talk to my doctor about a heated tube. The only feasible location for my cpap machine makes it so the furnace vent (central air) is blowing on the tube and a stand fan sitting by my bed is also blowing on the tubing.
With just the tube itself I have some issues with the hose pulling on it and I am concerned about the hose covers making this worse by adding more weight. Also, during the winter I generally prefer to let my apartment cool down to about 60-65F with occasional drops below 60, yes I know it sounds insane but due to my weight I am actually comfortable most of the time. My concern is, in addition to the extra weight on the hose, with that low of a temperature there would still be rainout even with the hose cover. This is something I am wondering about now because of insurance reasons as I doubt medicare would pay for the changes after 5-6 months since the machine I have is not compatible with heated hoses.
Heated tubing vs cover
Re: Heated tubing vs cover
If your machine doesn't have a heated hose option, consider this:

Re: Heated tubing vs cover
From what I have seen it sounds like that might be difficult/impossible to get insurance (medicare / illinois medicaid) to pay for but switching to something like the S9 with climateline tubing would be covered.

That may be true, but they really should.jared555 wrote:From what I have seen it sounds like that might be difficult/impossible to get insurance (medicare / illinois medicaid) to pay for but switching to something like the S9 with climateline tubing would be covered.
If you do have to pay out of pocket, $160 for the Aussie one hell of a lot cheaper than an S9 with humidifier and climateline tubing. But if money is tight, you might try the hose cozy first and see if the weight is too much for your mask. I've never tried one myself, but I haven't seen too many complaints about them either.

Re: Heated tubing vs cover
What I am saying is it sounds like medicare/medicaid is more likely to pay for the S9/humidifier/climateline than the Aussie tubing. I do agree if my choice was paying for one or the other just buying the tubing would be the best choice.Otter wrote:That may be true, but they really should.jared555 wrote:From what I have seen it sounds like that might be difficult/impossible to get insurance (medicare / illinois medicaid) to pay for but switching to something like the S9 with climateline tubing would be covered.

Re: Heated tubing vs cover
I bought a hose left system and it works great. Won't have to worry about weight of hose. Try this one:
