Opened Mouth a ton more last night

Post by yamar2001 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:29 am

I usually don't have a big problems with this and lately I do. I use head gear, and while I know putting it on tighter doesn't keep your mouth shut more effectively, I tend to find it shifts around less if I have it on tight, so I have it about as tight as it will go.

Last night I feel like I was waking up every freakin five minutes with my mouth completely dry. I must be opening my mouth in the middle of the night. I'm curious what would cause this to suddenly happen, and also curious about my AHI and Leak Rate when I *do* open my mouth. If I open my mouth more frequently in the middle of the night, will the leak rate go up or does it only register air leaked out of the mask? Will my AHI go up or does is it not able to register the apneas since I'm not receiving therapeutic treatment with my mouth open?

I went in to look at my data and found my 90% pressure is 9.5, my system leak is 29.9 for a 30 day average, and 31 for the 7 day average... and AHI is hovering around 3.6 for both the 30 and 7 day average. However, while I was in there I noticed that the Auto feature was no longer on. With all your help, I changed my machine to auto, and also upped my min pressure and max pressure...and felt relief from it. You can read about this at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62721&p=588694#p588694. Now I'm having a hard time finding where I can check to see if the min pressure\max pressure are still at the adjusted levels. I just can't find the menu for it. Anyone can to point me in the right direction?

Is it possible when the machine was unplugged one night, the settings changed? I thought they always stayed. In any case, I'd like to figure out where I can check about the min pressure and max pressure...and also get your opinion on if this is why I've been opening my mouth more or not, and also about the leak rate. Thanks gang!!!

I do recall the machine coming unplugged yesterday, and it's possible it got bumped around, or possibly even pushed a button taking it off auto. I'd like to make sure I have it back where it was now.

Unplug the little pointy plug at the back of the machine, then hold down the two arrows on the display, at the same time plug the machine back in. You will hear an audible beep, beep, then go into the setup menu. Make sure your settings are where you want them,if not re-set. Then.......hit the middle button..the one you turn the machine on with, that will set the changes you have made and exit you from the setup menu. Now your settings should be saved to where you want them. Do you have the card reader and SD card for your machine? You should try and get it if you fon't because the averages that show on your display arn't really that great an indicator to how your therapy is going. If you have the card and card reader you can access either of the free programs being offered by members fhere or one of us can send you Encore, the official PR program. As to dry mouth with nasal or pillows mask you just may be opening your mouth.....do a search for "dry mouth" and you will get a ton of info...including taping your yap shut.
Hope this helps
Nan

Appears as though everything was fine. Hmm, that's really weird. I don't typically have a problem with opening my mouth. I've been a tiny bit stuffed up for the last day or so... perhaps that is why. In any case, if you open your mouth and have apneas that does not show up in your data, correct?

I would absolutely love it if someone would send me the software. I believe I need Encore 1.8.49 because it's an older system. This would enable me to take better control of my apnea.

I think it's probably time for another sleep study too... looks as though my insurance is going to cover one. Because I have been doing so well lately, I didn't sign up for one... but I think the time has come. Will they likely recommend a new machine at that point too?

My email is brentlabb@gmail.com... if anyone could email me and send me the software I'd highly appreciate it.

Actually... when I first when thru the regular settings (not the ones where you have to hold down the arrows and plug in power source) it said that auto was off. Very odd that it would have been turned off.. I wonder how that happened. Perhaps that's what was going on here. In any case, if anyone can answer the above questions about mouth opening..and offer any advice I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to tape my mouth shut, it kinda freaks me out...I have a little facial hair and fear that may make it a bit more difficult too. Also, I posted my email... if anyone would be kind enough to send me the software I'd pass on the favor by trying to help others on this board....or send you money for doing so! =)

To use the software you also need the card reader. Generic will not work.
Cheapest place I have seen it is here.http://www.directhomemedical.com/101435 ... eader.html

Encore Pro 2.4xx will work with the M series machines. I have it and used it with my M series APAP until I got the PR S1 machine. Reports are the same.

I would suggest that you edit out your private email address or the spam bots will harvest it and bury you in spam.
