Help with buying a new mask

Post by Fossy » Thu Jun 30, 2011 9:04 am

So, I live in Denmark and apparently there aren't any places where you can go to simply buy a mask so I was wondering if anyone know of a website/shop for EU like Cpap.com is for the US?

About the masks, I was thinking I'd get a better Nasal pillows mask, once that dosn't require a chinstrap attached to it like my current one does.
I've been looking at 3 different ones:
GoLife for Men Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear
Swift™ LT Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear
Mirage Liberty™ Full Face CPAP Mask with Nasal Pillows including Headgear (Technically a hybrid I know but still ^^ )

Anyone have any experiences with these masks? I have a rather round, heavy-set face so.. that I guess is something that should be taken into account as well

Thanks for any replies in advance,
Fossy

Welcome to the forum, Fossy.

Sorry, I don't know of other online sites in Europe that operate like our host does. Perhaps someone else here will.

FYI, many masks have fitting templates online. You print out the page (don't let your printer resize it - print it as is), cut out the template(s) and see which size might best fit you. Our host also offers a helpful questionnaire to help you choose the right mask for you (https://www.cpap.com/help-me-choose-cpap-mask.php) or you can use the site to compare between the masks you're considering.

If there's any possibility that you're a mouth-breather, a nasal or nasal pillows mask with a chinstrap can work (but too often doesn't stop the mouth-leaking). If a chinstrap doesn't work for you and you're willing to use tape over your mouth or something like Poligrip strips between the lips, nasal pillows are a good choice - very minimal on the face. But if mouth-breathing is an issue and you're considering a "hybrid" mask, I think the Respcare Hybrid is a much better choice than the Mirage Liberty. The Hybrid gives you more sizing options and fitting possibilities than the Liberty, I like the headgear on the Hybrid better, and it has a chinflap to help keep the mouth closed (one of my favorite features of this mask, although some others here cut off the chinflap and find it works better for them that way). It is possible to open your mouth with the Hybrid, even with the chinflap; the bonus is your mouth is covered (as it would be in a typical full-face mask), so you're not losing your therapy air.

Hope that helps.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

I started therapy 2 years ago with the Swift LT. Great mask. Very stable. Side plastic pieces annoying just a little bit as I am small and the placement was a bit close to my eyes.
Then last year ResMed came out with the Swift FX nasal pillow mask. I got it because even less stuff on my face to deal with. This one is even better for me.

The GoLife looks a lot like the Optilife which I have tried and too much "stuff" on my face, though the nasal pillow part was fine. I just prefer the least amount of stuff on my face as possible.

Sorry don't know right off hand European supplier. Cpap.com will ship internationally though. Unsure of costs.
