got a print out -- what does this data mean?

Post by njy » Wed Feb 01, 2006 8:17 pm

Finaly got a real print out, not just compliance data. So what does this mean... good bad indifferent? Thanks
My cpap rate is 14 ( I understand this one )
Average Obstruction Apnea Indes 2.9
Average Hyponea Index 2.0
Average AHI 4.9
Average snore indes 2.3 (hubby says it is decreased, THANK Goodness)
Average Max Leak 139.9
Average 90% leak 55.4
Average leak 44.8
Average large leak 2 minutes (had one leak of 14 minutes)

Thanks
NJY

Your numbers look good except for the leak numbers. Lotsa air leaking going on somewhere - from mask, or from mouth. I like to see my leak rate no higher than mid-upper 30's.

Any AHI under under 5.0 is considered "normal." If you could do something to control the leaks a bit better, you'll probably get an even lower AHI than the 4.9 you averaged.

The obstructive apneas and hypopneas are the ones that sneaked through despite using cpap. It's normal for a few to crop up...no big deal at all.

Snores...those might be real (you tallied so few, it doesn't matter) or might be something the REMstar is regarding as snores but aren't really snores. I don't worry about that index as it shows a lot of non-existent snores for me for some reason, when I used the REMstar.

You're doing well, Nancy.

Like Rested Gal said: leaks need better control, and if you like to play, and can get the software running, I would try upping the pressure to 14.5 to 15 cm if you don't have trouble with 14 cm. But you really need to read the card to play this game.

I went from 14 to 15 and cut my AHI in half, now I am trying 15,5 cm, and it appears to be higher than my sweet spot. I am going to give it 3 more days trial. Like I said to be safe you need the software to play this game. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Thanks Rested Gal and (non)goofproof/guest. that is what I needed to know. I can't seem to find what the "good numbers are".

I brought home a new mask, activa, I will begin using it tonight. I was too tired last night to mess with getting the headgear adjusted with safetypins to start then

As for reading my cards, Goofproof, I am currently waiting for the cardreader to be delivered so I can begin playing myself. Also had a much better meeting with my theorapist yesterday... got the good one and have contact information to get directly to him in the future.

Again, thanks for the imput.
NJY

Beware if RG tries to get you to shave to eliminate the leak

She owns stock in Gillette! I just kept changing masks until I
found the "right" one. With my full-beard/mustache, my leak
rate approaches zero many nights. Unfortunately, I still have
this huge red swollen notch in the bridge of my nose. If I cover
that with tape to keep it from getting worse, my leak numbers
go up.

I'll have to get a pack of RG's Gillette Shavers, I've been using generic Bic's for a long time, we have to support our friends.
