New Bad night last night

Post by sleeplessinthevalley » Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:49 am

I have only been on cpap for four days. First 3 went remarkable well. I was beginning to think this was a piece of cake. Then came last night. In to bed a little early, 10 o'clock. So far so good. Fell asleep and hit with leg cramps. I have plm (570 recorded during titration). I had exercised in pool. Maybe I overdid it? Major mask leaks. Pulled mask off in middle of night. Immediately put it back on. Forgot to turn off machine when I got up for bathroom break. Woke up husband. Woke up with sore face. I want my other nights back!!!

Quetion... Do you need to change water every day in the humidifier? I have been so far.

Thank goodness for this forum and the people who are kind enough to answer our questions and listen to our concerns.Without you I would have no one to vent to or who has been through this adventure. I feel so much better after using CPAP but still have so very much to learn.

Sorry for your bad night. There are going to be some bad nights, but I hope they're minimal. The leg cramps could have been caused by anything. They say not to exercise too close to bedtime, but swimming in the pool usually helps me sleep. Hang in there. There are very few of us who have "a piece of cake" nights from day one.
As to the face soreness from the mask- most of us have experimented with many masks before finding the one that worked. After many masks I settled on the Respironics FitLife Total Face Mask (not the one size fits all). It's a very large mask, but spares the bridge of my nose and doesn't put too much presssure in any one area.
Again, hang in there. Perhaps you were over tired last night as it sounds like a bad night all around.

As to the humidifier- changing the water every day is probably best, but I admit to being lazy and just topping off for a week at a time. Then I wash the chamber. If you can figure out about how much water you use and only fill it a little more than that you'll decrease wastage.
Good luck

Bad nights seem to occur to all of us. Sometimes the piece of cake disappears too quickly. There will be more better nights as time goes on.

I have to refill my humidifier ever third day, so it gets a thorough cleaning then also.

I change my humidifier water (distilled) every day. If I don't, the humidifier gets cruddy with mineral buildup even though it isn't supposed to do so with distilled H2O.

Don't let a bad night now and then bother you. Sleeping with a CPAP isn't any difference than sleeping w/o one. Good nights and bad nights.

I am so used to my CPAP and FFM that I am uncomfortable without it. Now that I have my buckwheat pillow from beans72.com with added lavender sachets I am in HEAVEN every night!!
