CPAP vs APAP (My Experience)
CPAP vs APAP (My Experience)
Hi All. Last night I changed my APAP to a CPAP to test the results of a MyEncore chart. I know that one night isn't a conclusive test, but Man do I feel different today.
I'm titrated at 7, and my Auto 90% pressure runs between 6 and occasionally 8, so I set the CPAP for 7 with a ramp of 5. I had no problems sleeping - I always sleep very well. And I slept for my normal 8 hours.
As we say down here in the Ozarks, I'm in a Hog Fog today I can't believe how crappy I feel; my eyes feel swollen, my head feels heavy, and I just can't wake up.
Obviously, if I had to choose between CPAP and APAP, it's no contest.
Just thought it was interesting to pass on,
Linda

Question for Linda re: CPAP vs APAP
Hi Linda,
Thanks for sharing your experience. But I wasn't clear on which came out on top. As I understood your post you slept just fine on CPAP alone. You implied that as you went through the day though, you felt "crappy." But i couldn't be sure.
Did you stick with CPAP or return to the APAP.
I have had various up and down adjustments to my cpap lately (due to being on/off steriods for another condition) to get rid of some residual symptoms and wonder if APAP is a solution. So your experience is helpful to me.
Thanks for sharing,
Barry D

Hi glenwood 73,
An APAP is an automatic CPAP. It gets set with a lower and an upper pressure limit and will then move between them according to your breathing. Hope this makes sense. You might want to use the "search" function ....you will get lots more information. Probably the CPAPopedia also.
I am also a mouth breather and use an APAP.
I am much happier with the APAP than with a CPAP. Also have C-FLEX which gives you pressure relief on exhalation.
Good luck.

Linda,
I remember my first couple of nights now on my cpap at a pressure of 10. I felt the exact same as you described! I just figured I was like in a 'sleep hangover' from sleeping too deep- my first night I woke up in the morning and my hip was so sore I could hardly move. My wife said it was because I didn't move all night
I havn't had the type of fog since. I always wondered why.
