Does testosterone help?

Post by synonymous » Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:00 am

For the men, have you checked your testosterone levels?

One problem that I have is that (And I'm guessing) due to my poor sleep cycle, I'm getting low blood pressure happening when I'm put under stress. The work I do means I'm under stress for a good 9 hours straight. I don't want to pass out. I've made sure my meals are small and protein/fat rich in order to avoid hypoglycemia symptoms. They seem to happen anyways. The next thing I wonder is if the fatigue is causing low blood pressure issues.

I have low testosterone levels. I've been off my hormone replacement protocol for over a year because my wife and I are trying to have kids. I'm wondering if the lack of testosterone can also contribute to the symptoms I feel. Anyone have experience here?

I think bad sleep and low testosterone go hand in hand. I have low levels, but insurance will not cover it. I will tell you when I did take it then got off it. My wife got pregnant right away.

I dont think it ever improved my sleep. But, definitely helped the awake time while waiting for sleep. Dan

My dad, in his 80s, had low t. and was prescribed the cream. It made him aggressive, argumentative, hostile. My mom became afraid of him and told the doctor, who took him off of it. Caution is advised. Testosterone may give you super powers, and makes you think you're invincable, and it might even help your sleep. But it can also make you do really stupid things. Ask any teenager.

Or Rep. Weiner, for that matter.

I have been on TRT for 18 months are so. It has helped my mood and disposition, but not my sleep. And as Dan put it so well, the time waiting for sleep.

I have been on testosterone replacement for over two years and have more energy but I do not think it helped my sleep. I use Androgel Pump for my testosterone replacement. Androgel comes in a pump bottle and looks like hand sanitizer. I rub the Androgel on my upper arms, stomach, or thighs. You can google for it! My brother takes injection for his testosterone replacement because that is the only method covered by his insurance.

TRT can actually make sleep apnea worse, but it definitely helps energy levels... I have been on it for several years and it has helped my mood and energy, but don't know that it affected my sleep. Testosterone can have an impact on blood pressure as well, but not sure if it would cause the symptoms you describe.

Maybe but hops were added to beer to do the same thing by the monks. Beer used to have more exciting and dangerous ingredients until the monks took over. So if you are planning an "active" night - don't drink beer!

I have been on the patch for 45 days. my level was pretty low. My test level was 219 ng/dl low, normal range is 300 to 800 ng/dl adult male: 25-100 ng/dl adult female. I have diabetes, and use 200 units of insulin a day and still not in control. I have found since using the patch, I tend to use insulin more efficiently, it also seems to make me stronger, I was getting progressively weaker to the point of getting up out of a chair. I haven't been in any bar fights or beat the wife, maybe when my levels rise a little higher.

Due to have the levels checked in a month. I thank the V.A. Labs for checking for Low T, (without me asking) as it may be the answer to some of my problems. My normal heart doctors and G.P. didn't even think of it. I don't find it effecting my sleep or treatment for apnea, however I am now finding that my Blood Sugar level drop much more at night, and I am now relearning how best to shoot up to control that. Waking up in the A. M. with Blood Sugars levels in the 60's isn't much fun.

I have been fighting these problems since 2005 when my heart went bad. Not being able to exercise, to burn off fuel (CAL), out of breath, weak, getting worse as time goes on. I bought a O2 meter to check my levels, that proved it wasn't low O2, although not up to normal levels for a healthy person, they have been improving a little every year now up to 95 was at 90 in 2005. I may have found out part of why I'm having trouble, if so great. Jim
