get well soon pugsy...

It's no fun being in a cast. Last one that I had was on my right elbow (soft cast)... and I'm right handed. Couldn't sign my name or nothing!

So sorry to hear of your ordeal, Brenda. But I can sure relate to the one-handed mask-donning (and typing).

After each of my shoulder surgeries, I was also one-handed, with a sling on my arm for several weeks. I found that I could put my mask on without too much trouble by laying the mask on the pillow (or the bed) with the top side straps attached, putting my face into it, and then pulling the headgear over my head and snapping the bottom strap clips into place. Where there's a will, there's a way, and there was NO way I was sleeping without la machine.

Hope the healing of your wrist goes well and that you're back to typing "novel" responses very soon.

Being observant, I noticed you offered no details concerning "the fall." Anything you'd like to confess......... I mean tell us?

Get well soon and if there's anything I can do long distance, don't hesitate to ask. For some strange reason I feel like you'll overcome!

Do you really want to know just how much of a dumb ass I was? Let's just say I was attempting to do something very stupid. I was lucky. My wrist took the bulk of the damage or I would had more than a big goose egg on my forehead, where it tried to crack a rock, to deal with. I was alone. No alcohol or drugs involved. Just stupid ass climbing on something unstable and landing face down on bed of big rocks. Not very gracefully I might add. Thank goodness my family doesn't read this forum or I would be getting a royal ass chewing. It's best if they just think that I am a clutz instead of a stupid clutz. As it was let's just say that the goose egg scared me enough that I had enough sense to not attempt to drive myself to the ER. One of my best friends died a few years ago from what initially seemed to be a mild fall an bump on the head. This scared the hell out of me. I hit pretty hard. Just color me dumb ass.

Ouch!
Here's wishing you fast healing.
Sleep will help that.

Pugsy, I hope you are feeling better soon! Kathy

Thanks everyone. Tomorrow afternoon I see the orthopedic surgeon. I dread it but must be done. Will know all the gory details soon. I saw the x-rays and being an old x-ray technologist, I know what I face. I hate needles. Trying to find some old Valium to help me out a bit.

Brenda, so sorry you took the fall and hurt your hand ! Why do bad things happen to good people? But, I know you can make a great recovery. About 30 years ago I was driving and hit by a drunk driver. Broke left arm in 5 places, the worst was breaking both bone ends at the wrist. Quickly was in surgery and made a remarkable recovery. the Dr said I would always have a very stiff wrist. I think carrying cement blocks 12 weeks later kept that from happening. Anyway hope your better very soon. I have several questions for you !!!!!! Your friend, Dan

Hi Pugsy. Everyone has a moment in life. Sorry to read you hurt yourself so bad. Also wish you a speed recovery.
Like someone said, not a bad idea to have Hubbs learn to help help me put my mask on "just in case". Very good idea.

PS - May be a great time to learn to type a complete thought in 20 words or less

Hi Pugsy,
I was sorry to hear of your accident and hope you have a speedy recovery. I encourage you to take advantage of the services of a physical therapist to speed your recovery and limit the future loss of motion that can result from such a break. The physical therapy and homework you will be given may be more painful than the original break. That was my experience when I broke my wrist. The therapist will do painful things to your wrist that you couldn't do to your self and ask you to continue exercises at home. Faithfully following his directions will speed your recovery and get your wrist back to normal. Looking back on my physical therapy, I disliked every moment of it, but now appreciate the results it produced. Good Luck!!

Bill

Amen! I've not had to deal with wrist PT, but with the knees and ankles - well, that's a different story. Not pleasant in the short run by any stretch of the imagination, but it really helps.

Closed reduction was attempted in office today. Man....that was every bit as bad as I thought (shots into broken wrist to numb things).

Multiple fragments and one large piece is too far away from other bone to guarantee solid mend so this Friday I go for surgery where they put pins in bone to hold them together. Crap.

The following Friday my daughter and grandson will be here and he will be staying 3 weeks. She goes home the 22nd.

Physical Therapy? I live on a farm. Most likely PT will be done at home. Husband has to go back on the road and won't be home every night to do the chores, I will have to do them. Since I was a nurse for orthopedic surgeon I do know the importance of proper range of motion stuff. Should I need extra PT to torture me I will do what is needed but that is 2 months away now.

Right now I am sending out invites for my pity party that I am planning. I was in the process of redoing the patio with pavers. Unfortunately 12 x 12 pavers that require both hands to lift. Just too heavy to place with one hand. Was going to get base sand today. Now all on hold. Bummer.

Unsure what OSA diagnosis will mean with the general anesthesia since it is out patient surgery. Will talk to anesthesiologist Thursday to see how they want to handle it.

Off I go to start the pity party details.
