Travel and the SD card
Travel and the SD card
Read posts about traveling with the Cpap. Very helpful. No one mentioned if the SD card should be removed before going through security. I will be traveling via air to NJ next week and am concerned that the recorded information would be erased. It was
suggested to me to print out the manual and place it in case even though the Cpap has a sticker saying it is medical equipment.
The person inspecting may not understand what it is for. I have the manual on my computer to print.

Re: Travel and the SD card
I don't think anyone has ever had any problems with the data cards in them, so that's why. You shouldn't have any problems. Just be sure to empty the water chamber each time BEFORE packing.Artcarved wrote:Read posts about traveling with the Cpap. Very helpful. Where will you be flying out of?

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember
If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: Travel and the SD card
The SD card is very unlikely to be affected.
However, you should be prepared for the loss of your data even if you don't travel. SD cards and the interfaces to them are simply not that reliable. Sometimes the card will simply not make good contact or there will be something flaky with the machine or the PC and your data will be gone.

Re: Travel and the SD card
Gumpy, don't worry I won't be that groggy to forget to empty the water. I'll be leaving out of Miami International Airport and will be staying in Warren, NJ. My husband will be seeing customers and taking photos of some of the jobs where our product is installed.
The hotel is near the train station so we will be able to take it into NYC. The customers are in NJ so we will rent a car to travel to Englewood, Garfield and may drive to Verona, PA (not NJ). I work with my husband for 41 yrs. He called my into the office to answer the phone 41 yrs ago, until he could find someone for the office, and I'm still waiting. We are seniors and hope to sell business at some point soon. Married 57 1/2 yrs. Still talk and hold hands, hug a lot too.

Re: Travel and the SD card
Don't have to be groggy, I think its just the routine is different, that's all. Don't forget to bring a power strip and a multi-plug outlet
Enjoy your trip. Today was absolutely gorgeous. It's 55 at this writing and should be great sleeping weather.

Re: Travel and the SD card
I flew from Calgary into Newark and back last month. Had no issues at all with the machine or SD card (and I don't have a "medical equipment" label). One thing I recall another forum member posting is not to put anything else in the bag except the equipment that belongs in it. No creams, no extra camera batteries, no nothing. For some reason, extra stuff perks security's ears up.
If the inspection clerk hadn't gotten me all kerfuffled by yelling at me to put my coat and machine in separate bins after they were halfway into the x-ray machine, the trip from Newark might have been uneventful (until we got to Calgary and, in spite of having Nexus cards, were interrogated about the purchases we made)! I might have even remembered to take my passport and boarding pass out of the bin before I left the area to put my shoes back on. What a panic! Where's my passport?!?! My boarding pass!! It was still in the bin (stacked up high with others) when we went looking for it. Whew!
But nothing about the machine. And that's a good thing.
welki

Re: Travel and the SD card
THE reason not to put anything else in the bag is it won't be classified as "Medical" and exempt from the carry-on rules, thats all. I put anything I use with my cpap in the bag including the power strip, adapters, and distilled water. But you can also put your medicines in - if you have any. Prescription or OTC.

Re: Travel and the SD card
TSA agents are very familiar with CPAPs and their carrying cases. They see them every day.
No, your SD card will not be affected by the scanner.
There is a PDF file of a CPAP Medical Tag you can print and laminate to put on your case strap...but it's really not necessary. (I just went the the link for it and it's a dead end. I will see if I still have it in the bowels of my hard drive and make it accessible.)

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Re: Travel and the SD card
Oh yea and like Link said the TSA agents know what cpaps are and look like now, so it's not necessary to print that manual. Besides it is molded into the bottom of the machines that they are "For Medical Use" or some such. The label for the bag might help if some other passengers ask or wonder why you get more than them. But its not required either.

Re: Travel and the SD card
Can you take a bottle of water through the checkpoints now? I haven't flown in awhile.

1. I always have inside my cpap bag - marked "Distilled".Lizistired wrote:Can you take a bottle of water through the checkpoints now? I haven't flown in awhile.
2. Else you can put water bottles in your checked luggage.
3. Else take an empty bottle thru the TSA checkpoint to fill later.
