Anyone know what causes this?
Or, heck, what this even is...
Okay, make a sound like you are snoring. You are probably inhaling when you do that. Now make that same sound, but do it when you exhale. There is something, it feels like internally in between your nose and mouth, that might stop you after a few seconds.
I find that sometimes at night, especially when lying on my back, trying to exhale causes that same sort of stoppage feeling. Does anyone know what that is?

There are lot of causes of snoring at night. It is due to over weight and over eating. So you should avoid eating too much and should reduce your weight. Are you a over weighted? How much weight you have? reply me soon.Thanks.

You might be having an apnea on exhalation. If it's bothersome and you haven't seen an ENT you might want to go in for an exam. It doesn't seem like an apnea would feel like it was between your nose and your mouth. Does it only happen when you're going to sleep, or does it wake you up?

Yes, it does feel like it's coming from up higher, like something vibrating in the nasal cavity. Quite different from the throaty noise on inhale. I don't think it's apnea related at all.

Well, I don't know if it wakes me up, but quite often I find that after I've been sleeping for awhile, then I wake up and try to sleep on my back, I have this problem. It basically cuts my exhales short, because whatever it is, it stops me exhaling. Like I said, it's a strange sensation that's hard to explain. It's sort of like the same way you make a snoring/grunting noise, whatever it is in the back of your nose/throat that allows you to do that, is the same sort of thing that stops my exhales at times after I've woken up and tried to fall asleep again while lying on my back.

Turn off C-Flex and see if that helps. Or test the pressure while you are awake to make sure that you can't do this maneuver with the machine running as programmed.

Oh, no, it has nothing to do with my CPAP. I had this problem even before I started CPAP treatment. I don't know what it is. I've always had major sinus problems that have never really been taken care of...it is probably just something related to them. I just figured that others might know what I was talking about.

Well. I was suggesting that CPAP is the cure, not the cause.W_HAMILTON wrote:Oh, no, it has nothing to do with my CPAP.
Yeah, me, too, but CPAP seems to help prevent it.W_HAMILTON wrote: I had this problem even before I started CPAP treatment.
Me, either.W_HAMILTON wrote: I don't know what it is.
I must have misunderstood. Sorry.W_HAMILTON wrote:I just figured that others might know what I was talking about.
In reading your first post, I see that you were indeed asking for help identifying it, not asking for help in curing it. I apologize for the misdirection, which is my fault.

It's no problem! A cure is good, too I was just wondering what causes it. I'm still in the early stages of treatment so I have been hesitant to mess around with any of the CPAP settings, but I will keep this in mind as I become more experienced!
Re: Anyone know what causes this?
I sort of thought that was the thingamajig that causes apena. The couple of times I've listened to someone sleeping who I think has apnea, it sounds like they're "jamming up" on exhale. They often make a long snorting snore on inhale, then make a short "stopping" sound on exhale. After a while with some signs of struggle, they may make a sudden explosive exhale.
Does anyone have an idea whether apneas tend to be on inhale, exhale, or both?
