Re: chin strap question
I use a PapCap chin strap and just picked up a Respironics Premium chin strap from my DME supplier this morning. I was just messing with the new one so I could try it out tonight. I love the PapCap, but am concerned about it maybe getting a bit warm to wear in summer. Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised the Respironics chin strap is very comfortable and seems like it's going to stay in place on my slippery hair.
Hope this helps in your search.
Cheers,

Re: chin strap question
I've used the Topaz (now sold as Ruby by Puresom) since I started therapy in February. It's worked well, is comfortable, is adjustable and doesn't slip. The problem for me is that in the warmer weather it feels like I'm in a wetsuit. Too uncomfortable now. I decided to give the Ultimate Chinstrap a try. I was surprised when I saw it but am giving it a good try. I'm using the staps opposite from the instructions; just how it fits my head. I've only used it two nights and believe it will loosen up as it goes. It is very soft and that makes it more comfortable. It's doing the job as far as keeping my mouth closed.

All of these posts so far great recommendations - and . . .
if you're like me, you may learn to keep you mouth closed and breath through your nose at night. It took me awhile to learn this. I started by only breathing through my mouth during the day which helped my brain remember to do that at night. Plus, I got used to the different volume of air that one gets through the nose versus mouth.
Anyway, I was only on a strap for a short time. Learning to keep my mouth closed was much preferable especially since the chin strap made my skin sweat and get rashes.
Best wishes.

Re: chin strap question
Experiment with a 3 inch non-self-adhesive Ace bandage made into a loop with safety pins. It breathes pretty well, is dirt cheap. Throw it away when it loses its stretchiness or gets grungy.

Re: chin strap question
I received a Sullivan chin strap free from my first DME--
I thought it was completely useless, as it would slide off my head within minutes every time--until about a week ago.
I took out my trusty scissors and split the strap from the ends to about an inch above my ears.
This left me with two skinny hook and loop straps that could be spread apart and adjusted independently.
Voila!--it worked. cheap and light.
I do wish the chin cup was smoother and softer inside--maybe I'll try wearing it wrong side out.

Re: chin strap question
Thanks everyone for the info on chin strap. I am going to try going without one and see what happens. My chin is always broken out because of the one I use even though I wash it regularly.

1) Go to the Control Panel
2) Select the Profile tab (next to Overview tab)
3) Edit Equipment (just under Edit Profile - on the left side of window)
4) I select 'yes' to Allow Others to View Your CPAP Equipment (this helps forum members see what you're using when you have questions)
5) I select 'yes' to Image (this helps us see a picture of the equipment you're using)
Re: chin strap question
I use a chin strap from Cardinal Health; fits comfortably and does stretch made in USA comes in different sizes; in addition i found a head band at REI sporting good
stores which actually made out of 90% organic cotton & 10% spandex "Breathe" also made in USA; and offers a good alternative and additional support especially
since the chin strap can get stretched out; it has improved my leakage with nasal mask and even when i have use my FF Quatro mask. I hope this helps. Good luck to you

Re: chin strap question
Great suggestion. Works great for me! Although I do use a 2 inch "self-adhesive" Ace - it prevents slipping. I make 2 loops, one to keep my chin up and the second one I just slide up off of my chin to cover my mouth and it prevents lip flutters. A great 2 in 1 strap!archangle wrote:Experiment with a 3 inch non-self-adhesive Ace bandage made into a loop with safety pins. It breathes pretty well, is dirt cheap. Yes vote for the Respironics Premium Chin Strap. It is very comfortable and totally adjustable,
can be tightened easily. Much better than the Halo by Breatheware.

Re: chin strap question
I recommend the Ultimate Chin Strap by Russ MacMillan. I've been using it several weeks now, and it definitely helped the horrible "drymouth" I'd been dealing with. I would definitely recommend checking out the Russ MacMillan video and website.
