Good evening all.
Yesterday, I started working out with Hubbs. So my question is as I get into a routine of working out, will this also help in giving me better data readings (lower AHI) rather than being a couch potato? lol, I could be asking for a miracle here.

Re: Can Exercise Effect Sleep Apnea?
My central apnea count goes up if I exercise too hard. It doesn't seem to affect my apnea or hypopnea counts.

make sure that it's not too close to bedtime so that it keeps you awake (sleep hygiene).

Starlette: good question! Though I am fairly active at work... my wife says, "it don't count". I will start lightly exercising and see what my numbers do.

GREAT question!
According to my wife, I toss and turn a lot less at night on the days I have a heavy workout. To me, that means better sleep. And I do feel better the next morning. Which, for me, is the point of it all. Right?

It is unlikely to help true AHI, but a proper exercise regimen will help everything else!

My dentist informed me that if I did a lot more heavy cardio workouts, I wouldn't need the CPAP - lucky thing my mouth was full of dental paraphernalia at the time!!!!!!
One day, when I can ask him without smacking him, I want to know how the extra cardio would rid me of the CPAP, but until then........
Cheers,
xena

Re: Can Exercise Effect Sleep Apnea?
In my experiennce, losing weight and getting in shape seemed to "improve" my apnea.
I'm not saying cure it, and this was way before any machine had data , so I have no idea about AHI. But a while back I lost a lot of weight and was in the water 3-4 times a week and during that time frame if I dozed off on the couch I didn't wake up gasping for air and my wife said I didn't stop breathing like I had before CPAP.
I am in the camp that exercise and diet have the potential to improve the numbers and "possibly" lower CPAP pressure. The immediate reaction may not indicate this as tissue as there may be excess tissue around the airways after weight loss, but I am hopeful that there will be positive results from weight loss and exercise.
Now "I" just have to get going and lose the weight I put on to back up my words.
