How long will mask last? 6 months or ?

Dear All,

I just already use mask for 5 months and DME told me that we should change mask every 6 months. Does this true? Or how long your guy usually use for each mask?

I have a Mirage mask that lasted for three years, before I replaced any parts. The frame and seal are now six years old. I did have to replace the headgear quick release clips, seal retainer ring and headgear.

Mask replacement is really dependant on how oily your facial skin is and the ph of that oil or so I am told. Masks will last a little longer if you wash your face before putting one on and it will also reduce air leakage. From all that I have read most people are getting masks replaced as early as 3 months of use up to 6 months. Verify with your insurance what they are willing to pay for in regards to replacement period. Based on my first statement I would say that a full face mask would be replaced more often than a nasal pillow mask but that is just my opinion.

My insurance will replace my Activa every six months without cost. I found that my mask was losing effectiveness long before that. Check with your insurance and get them replaced as often as you can!!!

In the UK my health authority replace masks every year and encourage us to keep the old one as a spare as it will still have some life left in it.

I would suggest that you have a spare mask anyway, and then keep using the mask you have until you think it isn't able to do the job anymore and then replace it.
