I don't have a data capable machine.....

Post by sleepyleaf » Thu May 19, 2011 5:09 pm

I downloaded info to encore for the first time tonight and was so excited to see my numbers... until I only saw the hours used. So I jumped on live chat and jeepers helped me to realize that I don't have a data capable machine. I am so bummed. I was so ready to take charge of this sleep apnea thing and get it straightened out. Now all I know is that I have been totally compliant and my pressure is set at 8 all the time and although I feel better I am still ready to put my head on the desk at 9am every morning at work.

Yes I'm whining. Mostly I am really mad at myself for not researching and finding this site before I got my CPAP. I had no clue what kind of machine I was getting or what kind of machine I really should have asked for.

I have an appointment with my Dr. tomorrow but how can they help me without the more detailed information. Its like a crap shoot. I am so frustrated.

Even a data capable machine may be set at 8 all the time unless your doctor requests an auto set for you. If you have had the unit for less than 30 days you may be able to exchange it. Ask your MD for a prescription that requests a data capable machine by nan=me.

Oh crap. I would be thinking something much, much stronger but I probably would get my hands slapped for typing it.

They gave you a brick and you didn't realize it. Maybe all is not lost depending on a bunch of things.
Have you read Janknitz new addition to her blog? http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2011/0 ... h-a-brick/ What do do when you realize you have been stuck with a brick.

Sleepyleaf,

Maybe this will help you try to get a data capable machine http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2011/0 ... h-a-brick/. Whoops, sorry for the repeat--I see Pugsy beat me to it.

IMHO, your language is fine (we're all adults here, and everyone has the choice to "foe" you if they don't like your language, and the avatar you chose is a pretty generic one that doesn't seem to be "owned" by anyone. There are several people here using duplicate avatars.

Thanks Pugsy!!! I just read janknitz blog about it. It seems there's a chance I could get it changed. That is if I can grow a backbone!!! I am going to write down the machine I want, go to the Dr. ask if they will write me a script for it. Then I will call the DME and see if I can trade it. OK thats what I say now. Tonight, when I am mad. Tomorrow I will probably wimp out.

Your profile shows a PR System One Remstar PRO. The Pro is fully data capable. You should get lots of data from the software IF you have the PRO. Is the PRO not the machine you have?

I didn't see anything wrong with your language and your avatar is one of the generic ones available to choose on this forum. I think a number of people have it. That's not a problen either.

No need to be concerned about your language in this thread anyway. You are just fine and so is your avatar! I'm not sure why lars4life decided to mention either.

Grow that backbone. Then lars and everybody else won't complain about your language.

If your sleep doc won't rewrite the script, some folks have had luck with getting their PCP to rewrite the script.

Understood.

If money permits and backbone disappears or even if backbone isn't enough.. you can always use the Plus as a backup machine and get a gently used data capable machine somewhere. Cpapauction, secondwindcpap or even craigslist. Get same brand and then you can use existing humidifier.

THanks Janknitz. I read the whole thing and it is GREAT information!!! Its all there for me I just have to use it tomorrow when I talk to these people. Sometime I will change my avatar. It just takes me forever to do stuff like that. I'm not the most computer literate!!! My language was pretty mild but I edited it out anyway. Don't like to offend. Thats the wimp in me!!

Hawthorne - my machine is the REMstar Plus C-FLex of course I have the wrong one picked. It will take me all night to correct that!!!

robysue, I think I have a PCP that would do that for me!!!

If you're not on traditional Medicare, don't forget to call your insurance and know exactly what and how they will cover a data capable machine so your DME can't play "stupid patient" games with you.

And call some other DME's (insurance permitting) to see if they will give you a data capable machine. If you know you can go elsewhere and get exactly what you want, it's a lot easier to have a backbone with your current DME because YOU will have the upper hand.

Sorry! I just wanted to be sure you didn't already have a data capable machine!

Good luck going after one!
