LEAK RATE MAKIN' ME CRAZY!

Post by Lisaintosa » Wed May 18, 2011 9:21 am

Hello All:

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can keep my mask from leaking all the time? The last couple of days it's been really high (1.10 last night and 1.40 night before) those are the highest I've had in quite some time, but usually its around .70. I know leakes defeat the purpose of having cpap, so i need some ideas.

I thank you and does my husband.

Time for a new cushion or whatever sits on face that might be wearing out? Check all connections and hoses to make sure nothing broken or have any holes?

With your S 8 machine that leak rate should be well under .40 L/sec which is where ResMed says it likely will impair therapy and event scoring. Even that .70 is nearly twice where ResMed says is max. This is all excess leak because ResMed already subtracts the intentional vent/leak rate.

Sorry, don't use your type of mask to offer specifics for making it better.

********UPDATE*********

Got much better results last night. Leak rate was .12. Only thing I did differently was wash my face before I went to bed. I do admit to oily skin, so maybe that helped. Don't know, but I'll try it again tonight. Don't know what the next few nights will bring as I'm having some minor surgery tomorrow.

Washing your face is the key.....it completely eliminated my leaks. Also I use citrus cpap wipes to clean my silicone cushion.
Facial oils WILL cause leaks.
