sore nose
sore nose
I have had my cpap for a week now and am using a full face mask. It is killing the bridge of my nose! (red and sore) Dose anyone know how long it will take for my nose to tuffen up? Should I switch to a total face mask?

Re: sore nose
Why don't you tell us what face mask you are using????? You are probably tightening too much. Masks are designed to float on your face with an air cushion.

Please go to the User Account Control (top left of page) and then go to your Profile and Equipment Tab. Then from the drop down menu choices please add your specific equipment so that we can see exactly what you are using (please use the text format because the image format gives us tiny images and all the stuff looks alike).
When we know exactly what you are using we can give much more specific ideas on how to make things more comfortable.
Mask should NOT be painful and you should NOT have to develop scar tissue to toughen the skin. While one week isn't very long, it is an eternity with a poorly fitting mask. There are things to do to improve mask comfort and fit and often we do have to change mask models and brands. It is rare person who gets it right the first time in regards to masks, especially the full face variety. Just so much surface area to deal with.
Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people here to offer suggestions on how to make things go smoother.
I don't use full face mask myself, so I am zero help in that specific area.

Re: sore nose
Well, the info is now there.
To the OP: First thing I'd suggest Since you're using a Quattro is visiting Jankintz's blog and reading through her entry Taming the Mirage Quattro for tips on how to make sure you're not tightening the straps too much.
Second thing that I'd suggest is visiting Padacheek's web page and looking at her nose bridge protectors
Between the two of them, you should be able to find a way of keeping your nose bridge from getting so sore.

Re: sore nose
Finding the right mask seems to be one of the toughest parts of starting CPAP.
The Quatro was also my first mask, and the sore nose just kept getting worse.
If it does not improve you may want to consider one of the hybrid style masks which cover the mouth, but have pillows that go right into your nostrils rather than sitting on the bridge of your nose. You'll find two of them out there, the Hybrid, and the Liberty which may work for you.
A little less extreme than going to the full face that you were asking about.

Re: sore nose
Why dont you try the Quattro FX mask. I think it sits lower on the nose and is softer on inflation. It worked for my wife and she no longer has nose marks!!!!
