If so, we all are, except for (maybe) Dori.
I have learned to accept this.

Yes sure - that is my O2 you are breathing! LOL

Like they say on the airplane - put your mask on first before helping others! It is much easier to help others when you are healthy.

It might depend on whether the majority of your posts are asking questions about YOUR therapy or whether they're helping other users with THEIR therapy.

I can honestly say that in the six years I've been on this forum, I have never posted a question about my own therapy........because I don't think I ever had any.

I admit to being selfish... I want a better quality of life!

I had been on (and off) CPAP therapy for almost a year with NO encouraging results! Feeling so desperate - I reached out for help and I found it on this forum. After my 1st post someone reached back and has continued to reach back DAILY. She has given me advice, encouraged me, slapped my wrists when needed...done EVERYTHING she can to help me get effective treatment...even to the extent of loaning me a machine for my use. Have never met this lady but feel like we have been friends forever...

Sorry - gonna have to spill the beans - PUGSY - YOU ROCK!!!

Without her help I would be lost...Is my therapy perfect??? Probably not...Is it better than the day I joined this forum???

ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY, A RESOUNDING YES!!!

I do have a sleep doctor...I have had 2 sleep studies in the past year...however PUGSY has helped me gain more effective treatment since she started working with me. Doctors have hundreds of patients so their time is divided among them...

So when a member of this forum takes you "under their wing" gives you individual attention...CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY!!!

I DO!!!

THANK YOU PUGSY!!!

I don't think most people come here because they are self centered. I think we have something in common that other people don't understand and most don't want to hear us talk about. Here we meet others that deal with the same problems we do. Leaks, pressure adjustments, insomnia, gas . We also find shoulders to cry on and people to share the happy times with.

Being concerned and proactive about your health is not selfish.....if you don't do it, who will?

I know of ONE who is most definitely self-centered!

Time for the foe feature, methinks...

Den
Den is one of the most helpful forum members there is. God knows he's helped me enough times. I remember when I had decided that APAP was going to be the answer to all my problems and Den said that straight CPAP worked best for some folks....Six months later, after being pretty miserable, I went back to straight CPAP and started sleeping better again.

I've taken and tried to give also. If I see a post I have some experience with and I think it might help I'll usually chime in. I've probably taken more than I've given, but I'm always aware that I also need to give back to this wonderful forum that has and continues to be such a great area for support and encouragement to all of us.

Last nite was my first night on ASV and it took about 2.5 hours to get to sleep, so I'm kinda dreading bed time tonight. I did feel different this morning...not so grumpy. I did, however, wake up alot in the night. There have been about 4 forum members that have been a big help with what to expect with this different therapy and I'm grateful to them for their help. If I ever get it down, then one day hopefully I can pass on what I've learned.

Thanks everyone

JeffH

I think the people on this forum are the least self-centered, most UNselfish people I've ever known. Through them I have been able to give my husband some of his health back and learned something important about real love along the way. I don't know how many pages it would take to thank each one individually for the kindness you've shown me, but you all know who you are! Den, especially, has been with me through thick and thin from the beginning and has never once lost his patience with me! But I can see him roll his eyes sometimes! RestedGal, Hawthorne, Pugsy and many others have relieved my anxiety more times than they know. I hope they won't be upset that I've named them. I've corresponded with others and try to help in whatever small way I can. I think we're here because the kind of support we receive here nobody on the "outside" can really provide to us. Good thread!

I will also say THANKS to Pugsy...if it wasn't for her help I don't know if I would have been able to do this. She has answered all my questions, spent a couple of hours with me on the phone and when I got off I had no worries about putting the mask on. I have been successful every night since.

Thanks.....Laurie

I am blushing. Thank you for the kind words.

I came here 2 years ago thirsting for knowledge. Detailed knowledge because that is the type of person I am.
Was sure I would be one of those that had the overnight miracle. Boy was I ever wrong.
Had some problems and several members gave me some much needed input and helped me make informed decisions.
Never had that overnight miracle but I did get a good handle on things and once cpap was optimized realized that I had other issues to work on.

I remember those early struggles and all my questions that were patiently answered and when I didn't understand, they tried again. I remember that it took me 3 days to figure out what DME meant. I remember how overwhelming all this sleep apnea stuff was and I have 30 years of medical experience to draw upon.

I am here to pay it back and enjoy the friendships I have made.
