2 week comparison

Post by Katt » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:35 am

Hi all ...

I am still getting used to things ... but am too stubborn to let this beat me .... even though I have slept with this condition for years before being diagnosed. I have been using a CPAP machine for about 2 months now, and got a new machine & mask on 15th (had been using a donation one that was a used machine) - the new machine came with a small nasal mask, so I used it for a week while I waited on my FFM. I wanted to post my results to get opinions. I found they each have things in their favour, and yes a week test is not a long one .... but still .... and I am still waiting on the original lab results .... slow connections ....

Here is the graph summary for the week using the small nasal mask ...

Here is my graph for week with FFM ...

Opinions?

Thanks!

Both reports are quite acceptable.
Small nasal mask seems to be a little better in the AHI and leak department.
Full face has a little more leak and AHI but not hugely different. Sometimes just the fact that the FF mask has more surface area to seal leads to a little more leak.

I would think either mask should work quite well for you at least going by the reports. You have to decide which is the most comfortable for you and which one might allow you to feel better overall.

Pugsy's said all that needs to be said: You should choose between the two masks based on comfort in my opinion. If you can, keep both; use the one you like on a daily basis and switch to the other as a backup or if the first one starts to give you any problems.

Inside the nose or just the outer nostril area?

Inside the nose maybe from humidity. Too little or too much??

Which nasal mask is it?

Outer nostril area mainly .... sometimes even the nose (bridge etc) though too ....

And it matter not which mask I think ... but since I just did a week with the FFM I know for sure it was with that .....

Here's a little trick for the itching I read somewhere along the way. BEFORE you mask up...just scrub your nose a bit with your hand....as if it were already itching. That seems to keep it from itching AFTER you mask up. Seriously. It works! And welcome aboard....

Oddly enuff ... that trick does work ... but not always .... still a good one ...

I am on week 2 with the FFM since I have found when I am tired (almost always) I find I do breathe thru my mouth more than I thought ... so I will try this FFM for a while yet ... .still waiting to wake up refreshed .... and still waiting ..... at least the events appear to be under control ... as long as I get more than 4 hours of use and sleep with the mask ....

At this point I am also on double dose of sleeping meds ... has helped me get to REM sleep a bit more often, but the emotional issues I am fighting against have not been buried yet ....

Onward ....

I read that here also. I wash my face and then give my whole face and nose a vigorous rub with the towel and then with my hands. Something about sensory overload, it really seems to do the trick.

You're doing well, Katt!

BTW, is that your picture in your avatar? Funny, you don't look like you have a thick neck...

If you want .... not sure if you have to register to see some of the galleries ...

And I could find no pattern for leaks or AHIs on the data .... oh well ... onward ....
