Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
Have been peeping on the forum for some time now and decided to jump on as a member. I was wondering if there are any members that do any traveling on a motorcycle and if so what about the use of their CPAP
Re: Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
I can't speak from personal experience, but some of the machines are pretty small, and some of the bikes are pretty big, so it certainly seems possible, especially if you're not also camping without electricity.

So I used to ride bikes. Do the modern ones have a 12 volt cigarette lighter hole you can get power from like a car. You could use your CPAP when you camp out with your bike then. I mostly used to Honda Dreams and Yamaha 250 etc I am 60.
Re: Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
You might could run the CPAP off your bike IF you don't turn on the humidifier heat. The CPAP unit w/ humidifier sucks up enough juice that you need a good sized deep cycle battery to run it for a night or two. Your bike battery ain't it. Search for battery on the forum. Running on battery power has been discussed quite thoroughly several times.CPAPARTY wrote:So I used to ride bikes. Re: Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
Welcome to the forum Pops03. I ride and when I plan on being gone over night I carry along my back-up unit, PR system1 auto. If you carry along your xpap on your scoot make sure it will be in a water proof container. My saddle bags are pretty much water proof on my Electraglide but I still place the pap inside a freezer bag before packing it in its travel bag. I don't like riding in the rain but I get caught in it sometimes.Pops03 wrote:Have been peeping on the forum for some time now and decided to jump on as a member. Re: Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
Howdy,
I like to ride and don't always stay in motels. I ride about 20,000 miles a year and need something that will work off 12volts so I can charge it during the ride.
Battery: I needed a new motorcycle battery and unfortunately what I ordered did not fit in the battery carrier, it was 1/16" too wide! So there's my new power source, it's a a 22AH AGM motorcycle battery.
Charge the cpap battery: I'm going to carry the cpap battery in my hard side case and connect it to my charging system via this nifty gizmo: http://www.pashnit.com/product/powerlet ... tml#ptb003
cpap power supply: I'm using a Resmed S9 Autoset. I was very pleased to see Resmed finally offer a 12volt solution :
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/DC-Con ... hines.html
So how well does it work? My pressure is set at 11 and my EPR is set at 1. I've been using the cpap powered by the battery/Resmed 12volt power supply for the past three nights, without charging. I've not been using the humidifier. And my fancy battery charger told me that my battery is 50% discharged. Now, I don't plan on discharging the battery that low, but It's nice to know that I can easily last three days without a charge. At home or on the road - yahoo! Sleep is good!

Re: Motorcycle Riders and CPAP usage
That's the key to your success. According to the Resmed battery guide using the humidifier would up your power draw from 3 to 6 times.stripboat99 wrote:I've not been using the humidifier.

i like the way you think stripboat99
firm believer here in the 2 pin connector for battery usage for GPS, etc.
might also be a good idea to pack your battery tender along just in case you have an outlet nearby ....any time my ride Scarlet (color of Heritage) is in the garage , it's on a float charge via tender. extends the life of your battery mucho.... i was able to enjoy 14,707 miles of FREEDOM last year only because of Pap therapy !
OK Y'ALL LET'S SEE SOME BIKES IN YOUR AVATARS

I should have added just for info that the sign is at top of a grade going down to Kendrick, ID east of Moscow. It's a 9% grade for 3 miles and no runaway truck ramps! Great ride going down!deerslayer wrote:i like it !!idamtnboy wrote:How's this?deerslayer wrote: OK Y'ALL LET'S SEE SOME BIKES IN YOUR AVATARS

Okay, I'm avatared!
It's a picture of mt R1150RT, taken near Glacier National Park coming home from Sturgis last summer!
I felt like a fish out of water with my horizonally opposed two cylinder engine amongst all those big v-twins
