Regular Pop and daytime sleeping

Post by djv1255 » Tue Jan 25, 2005 3:01 pm

If I have some Coca Cola Classic, I have less chance of falling asleep at work. If I have just diet pop or just water, I have a better chance of falling asleep at work.

Anybody else experience this?

djv1255,

It's the amount of sugar and caffeine that you are getting for the Coke. Give a kid some candy before bed and watch them bounce off the walls (or take my word for it). My choice has been coffee, which many years ago gave me a nice jolt in the morning, now it just prevents me from getting tired early. I have started drinking as much water as possible during the day, regardless of the coffee. I would suggest you drink as much water as you can, you'll start feeling better just from having your body properly hydrated, not to mention the cleansing effect is has.

Best of Luck

Yep, before I got my CPAP I was surviving on iced coffee, iced tea, iced chocolate, and coke. All of them have caffine, but coffee has the most.

In order to loose wieght, my doctor wants me totally off regular pop.
I lost 50 pounds.
I've started drinking some regular pop again and gained a couple pounds last week.

Bummer.

If you like soda (or pop for those in the mid-west) try Fresca as an alternative. I am not sure how to describe it, but it has 0 calories and only 1% sodium. It is really refreshing and by reading the can/bottle I thought I would hate the stuff.

I second the motion for Fresca. It's sort of like a grapefruit-flavored soda/pop.

They use corn sweeteners now for soft drinks and most other products. Its much cheaper than sugar. Maximizing profits.

Me , I drink only water ( about a gallon a day) and brewed tea. No sweetener.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Jean,

I love water and tea also. Especially when I can get the loose leave stuff. I made the comment because I can just picture Chris and his chickens drinking water by the gallon. Chickens are not coordinated enough to drink tea though.

When I went to the Dr. for my sleep apnea she found out that I have diabetes and had to quit drinking regular soda. I had about four regular sodas a day and she said that would be equivilant to gaining about 10 lbs. a year. I started drinking Diet Rite, which is sugar free (sweetened with Splenda), sodium free (to go with my high blood pressure) and caffine free. Sounds blah but the flavors are different and taste good. Still need coffee.
