leaks during back sleeping

Post by marl64 » Thu Apr 21, 2011 9:56 pm

I don't seem to have any leak problems when sleeping on my side but when I try to sleep on my back I immediately start having issues. Any clues on what might be causing it or what I can try to fix it?

Leaking around your pillows, or through your mouth? Do you feel it, or is it showing up in the numbers? Just starting out on your back or when you roll from side/stomach to your back, or both?

It's a constant problem to prevent leaks. I use the new Swift Mirage FX, I still get leaks but it's almost as versatile as you can get moving around. I've been using CPAP since 2006, I think if you can add 1/2-1 hr to sleeping, like 7-8 hrs, it makes up for the leaks. Sure, some say, well hell, I thought CPAP would allow me to sleep 5 hrs and work 14, you can not reply :~)
With nasal pillows, a good chinstrap is necessary for most of us, I use>

it's a pretty good design, but I still have issues with the back straps "riding up" ... hope this helps.

The leaks are around the pillows, I feel them and they occur mainly when I'm switching from side to back sleeping. I've tried adjusting the straps but haven't noticed a difference. Guess I'll keep experimenting.

I've noticed it is important to lift my head off the pillow readjust the mask and then lay back down. When you just roll over the head band gets pushed up a little bit.

Also. Try new cushions. I noticed after about three weeks my cushions would start to leak a little bit. I replaced the cushions and things were awesome again. (I'm authorized 2 sets a month)
