taking time to fall asleep

Post by dtotire1 » Mon Apr 25, 2011 2:50 pm

I've been on CPAP about a week. It takes me quite a while to fall asleep,as long a an hour or so, but then I sleep 5 or 6 hours. Does sleep improve as I go along? I have to take 10 mg Ambien + 30 mg mirtazapine.
Also, I am unable to register and post my profile. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
I have a Respironics REMstar ProC-Flex with a Fisher & Paykel Zest mask.

Your sleep latency should improve as you get used to the machine.

I've had long latencies all my life--since childhood, UNTIL CPAP. It's like Pavlov's dog, now. I put the mask on, the mask means sleep, I'm out like a light. I don't even have a minute to think about things before I'm out.

Woof!

Hello
I am on month two now. At the start I had a lot of mask issues. At that time it took an hour from the lights out to I fell asleep. After taking a month and a half to sort those out I took about a half hour before I fell asleep. I am now down to 15 or 20 minuets and getting more comfortable with it every day. What ever I have to go through it is worth it. Have a great nights sleep.

I watch a little tv (news or Everybody Loves Raymond.... DON'T NOBODY SAY ANYTHING!!!) with the mask on. It helped me get used to it quicker and when the lights go out... I go to never-never-land!!

Toughest issue is getting used to mask and falling asleep. Many folks have the same problem but it get's better over time. Took me a few weeks sleeping without mask, setting alarm for one hour later to put on.

Keep at it, IT WILL IMPROVE. And before you know it, you won't be able to fall asleep without it!
