Nothing but bad luck - Venting again

Post by Spirit » Sat Apr 23, 2011 4:54 am

After, a very long night of researching. Finally found someone, whom had similar data malfunction with cpap to software. After setting thier units to auto, data was not recording properly. Reason being. Flow sensor damaged.

So, unless my sleep doc, uploads corrupt data. I'm stuck with a data malfunctioning machine. The treatments is not what stresses me out, it's a variation of everything. Especially waiting for sleep clinic appointments. The sleep clinic tech will not replace my equipment, cause I shouldn't access data in the first place. And no way, I can afford to purchase my own cpap.

I am so about to give up on all this. I've been on cpap since Aug 2009,. The reason most people give up is, the length of time it takes to get an appt or truly feel good.

With any other health disorder, patients adjust thier meds, blood labs, adjustment etc.... With apnea, alot of effort, little results.

Only thing cpap has done for me is, I'm more mentally alert. But physically I'm still tired. Fatigue improvement minimal, only a few hours a day. I can perform physical activities, but only short periods 1-2 hours. Like after, I mow the lawn, my energy is zapped !!!! I'm physically tired for next 2-3 day's.

I'm going to try sleeping without cpap for a week and see what happens. I am so tired of waking up, because of cpap sometimes, for one reason or another, mask adujustment, leaks, hose wrapped around neck, strap too tight or loose, and the list goes on. Without cpap, I probably will get a good night sleep.

I've had tremendous help/support at the forum and I thank each and everyone, that has followed my journey with me.

Spirit --

I can "feel" your frustrations. It really stinks when you have the right "make it work" attitude, yet things just seemed stacked against you.

I understand feeling like you sleep better without it -- wanting to do that. To go through all of this for so long and not feel the wonderful relief that many get is really upsetting.

I wish I had words of wisdom or advice to give you, but I don't.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer. The machine is not working right therefore it is broken.

You are so close and have come so far to just throw it all in. I also feel your frustration. It took me 6 masks, no joke, to get one that would not leak. And, as I am not made of money, I ran up my charge card to buy these. I had to take my first machine back to the DME due to the fact that it was not what I wanted or needed. I agree w/previous poster. What about a new machine? Or a different used machine? It took me one full year to get my apnea under control and to feel even remotely good in the morning. And still, I don't feel good every morning. But at least it's better. And right now, better is my new goal. Problem is, I want to feel "perfect". You know, pole vault out of bed in the morning.

Spirit, have you contacted Resmed directly? Follow their phone prompt and go straight to an engineering tech. I had to do so when my original local DME provider wouldn't acknowledge the problem w/my original PAP. Resmed doesn't look kindly on their providers who don't honor their warranty. They won't say much critical about them to you but they DO contact them - and in my case all of a sudden that local provider was willing to send my PAP in and replace it. They weren't happy about it - but T.S.

When that provider refused to handle the recall on my AutoSet that was subject to recall and I contacted Resmed again, they made arrangements for SteriCycle to handle the exchange. Resmed has always been very receptive and helpful in situations like this for me. No reason why they shouldn't be for you too.

Once I fulfilled my "obligations" w/that original local provider I dumped them and shopped my "options" via insurance contracts and found another local provider I've been very happy with. I'm sure that some of this provider's willingness to work w/me is because they were aware I was not bashful about taking my business elsewhere if not treated well.

Hi Madalot, my entire journey was not bad, i've had improvements, just not in areas, I desire most. Without being able to review data, my stress level sky rocket ! It was really wonderful to monitor my progress daily. Now, I have no idea what's going on since Oct 2010,.

Thanks for reading/feedback.
Cheers

Hi LaCansada,
Wonderful you were able to get back on track, after phases of adjustments. I'm the same way, I do feel better, but not perfect. I want to feel perfect.

My equpiment was provided by VA medical, which can take an eternity, if I did need a new machine. And financial, no way at the moment to purchase one. So, I'm sort of stuck. It's like having a computer that turns on, but no access to anything.

Hopefully ResMed can shed some light on Monday. Thanks for input.
Cheers

Hi Slinky,
Wish I had insurance/local dme. My cpap is VA medical issue. VA is very strict about, equipment use, etc..... Also, take an eternity to get anything resolved, reason I'm so stressed out. It VA 3 years to figure out, I had apnea. Why? Because my civilian cardiologist, referred sleep study to VA. If it wasn't for cardiologist, I would still be undiagnosed.

VA is wonderful, about treatments, medications, equipment etc..... But diagnoses, can take an eternity, ask any Vet.

Hopefully ResMed can hook me up next week. Thanks.
Cheers
