Another New Kid on the Block

Hi, my name is Scott Pearson I too have OSA and just did a sleep study two weeks ago. It was severe enough that they started me on treatment that evening.

I have not seen my sleep doctor yet as they told me that they like to see you at least one month after the study.

I do not know my AHI or anything yet since I have not seen the doctor. However, I do have a copy of my study on a CD and I have looked at it. Not being a sleep tech I can only see determine so much information. Before the CPAP I was kicking my legs about 6 times a minute and about every minute or two I would stop breathing for 20-30 seconds at a time and my oxygen level was about 87-89% with dips below 85% when I stopped breathing.

After I was put on CPAP at a level 11 I would still kick about once a min or so but it did not arouse me and my oxygen saturation levels were over 90%

I look forward to seeing the doctor as I have a number of questions on the study.

I was prescribed a CPAP machine and picked it up with out finding this site first, boy what that a mistake. I have a S8 compact and started with a switf nasel pillow mask.

I do not like the S8 compact model as I cannot download any information from it. I want to get an APAP with the software so that I can see where my numbers are at different times and be able to make sure that I am getting the proper treatment. I am now on a diet and plan on losing 10-20 lbs and I would like to see what this does to my numbers and I also find that I take off the mask in the middle of the night. I want to see the compliance info so that I can find out when I am doing it and how long I am on the treatment in an evening as well as verify that the mask fits without leaks that I do not notice while I sleep.

Well, thats me. Just thought I would introduce myself to the group.

Scott Pearson

Hi Scott,

You found your way to a great message board for getting hints and help about making this crazy kind of leaf blower treatment go as comfortably and effectively as possible.

You're absolutely right about wanting to have a machine that can use software to give you overnight data. Sure does help in optimizing one's own treatment. Since the doctors and DMEs are often too busy (in some cases too clueless) to take much interest in fine-tuning equipment and treatment issues, we do have to be our own advocates much of the time.

You're on the right track. Good luck and keep reading/posting!
