still tired with cpap
still tired with cpap
I have been using cpap for about a week now and am still waking up groggy and then become exhausted as the day goes on. My nasal pillows seem to work fine (not leaking or am I taking them off in my sleep). My husband says I am not moving as much at night and now I only have to get up 1 time a night to use the restroom (which is nice), but I am still so tired. Any suggestions?

Margie22 can you take the time to register here at the forum. It's free and no spam. Then you can go to the User Control Panel upper left under the banner to your Profile and in there add your equipment in TEXT please. Images are small and all look alike. In text we can see at a glance what you are using and give you more specific ideas to help.

Cpap for a week is not very long and there is indeed some adjustment time but there are some things that can be done to make sure that the therapy is the best it can be. Most people see only a very gradual improvement and it can take months for the body to get over the damage done by OSA. Those that have the "miracle" overnight with xpap therapy are not as common as a person might hope.
So let's start with finding out if your machine has data available to view to see if there is anything there that needs to be worked on.
Lots of reasons to feel less than optimal (not always related to OSA) but we have to start somewhere and looking at the data is number one.
So what machine do you use? How many hours of sleep are you getting with the mask on?

It may very well take longer to feel the effects. You may not sleep well due to the unfamiliar equipment attached to you until you get used to it.
Don't forget that many people without apnea don't wake up refreshed either. Even if you have something other than apnea making you tired, that doesn't mean that you don't have apnea and it's doing damage to your brain and other organs.

Re: still tired with cpap
I went and added my machine info. Thanks for any responses I get. This is new to me so I am glad to see this support for this issue.
Re: still tired with cpap
Margie can you please look at your machine closely. The machine you have chosen in your equipment list was discontinued long ago and doesn't match your humidifier. Would you please confirm machine type?
I wanted to offer software to you so you can monitor data closely but if your machine doesn't offer data, it won't help.
Some machines don't offer data.
I am suspecting that this is what your machine might be. Look at the wording carefully and in the drop down menu list on the equipment tab look for the PR System One machines similar to what I have in my equipment tab.
Is this your machine?

There is limited data on the LED screen. 7 and 30 day AHI average and a large leak percentage (which is pretty much useless). To check your onscreen data you can access it via the LED screen if it is not available to you.

Re: still tired with cpap
Pugsy, yes that is my machine. I think I changed it correctly now. Let me know if I didn't. I also just checked out the data in the screen. So, the leakage percentage is useless you say? I would be interested in the software needed to read the SD card myself. My AHI over the past 7 days was averaged at 3.

Not yet, still shows the old one. Did you click "submit" after the change?

Re: still tired with cpap
Do you want the software so that you can monitor your therapy much closer than the LED on screen averages?
EncoreViewer 2.0 is available for $99 this is the version distributed by Respironics for patients.
Encore Pro 2.4xx this is the version distributed for clinics and doctors offices. It is available.
Both are Windows based software and if you use a Mac or other OS but setup windows environment for it to work.
I also have some hints to help you get around in ENcore Pro software to get the reports and stuff.

Sure, I would try the Encore Pro 2.4. Thanks!
