Thanks. Definitely keeping Parallels. Another question though, will my files under Windows in Parallels be accessible to me using Bootcamp?

If you mean can you access the bootcamp files while you're not running the Windows system (either by booting into it or through Parallels) - then yes, but read only. You can't change them, but you can copy them to somewhere that you can change them (like your mac partition hard drive). Bootcamp can also see your Mac files, but again it'll be read-only. This is because the two OS's use two file systems, so they can read each others' files, but can't write to them.

If you mean can you do everything you can do with your Parallels Bootcamp partition that you can do with any other Parallels VM, then yes. It works the same as the Parallels VM you have right now when you have the Bootcamp partition launched it as a VM. After you install and configure the Bootcamp system, you can start Parallels, create a new VM (if it doesn't offer to do it automatically) and Parallels will run you through a wizard to make the Bootcamp partition bootable both as a Bootcamp partition *and* a Parallels VM.

Sorry, I often forget not everyone is stuck dealing with 5 different virtualization systems every day LOL My day job is to help clients replicate both physical and virtual Windows servers from one location to another, so your brain eventually just sees everything as some kind of container.

If you persevere, you'll get it working either with the existing SD card reader or the alternative of an external plugged in. For me, typically the only times (and I suspect that TalonNYC has found this as well) I have had significant difficulty with a VM not doing what it needs to is in cases where the hosted operating system needed direct access to a physical piece of hardware (usually something rather obtuse) rather than logical access as presented through the VM.

Regardless, glad to see more Mac users than has been evident here!

I am brand new to Mac which doesn't help. Only just made the switch. I've been using PCs since cutting teeth on homemade computers using Dos back in the very early 80s. Parents both engineers, worked on the early PCs, had various computer stores. Apple was always a dirty word in our house. But since it's become so much more popular and easy to use, I couldn't avoid it anymore. And I have to say, it definitely rocks. Just wish more stuff was natively Mac compatible without having to pull teeth to make programs work.

Perhaps Respironics will get the clue that they should make a Mac version of their software. Especially since so many companies are running exclusively on Macs or Linux now.

Resprionics and ResMed are moving toward cloud-based online software these days, so I'd say yes they are looking at multi-os, but also looking to lock things down a lot more and exclude end-users.

I'm going to poke myself in the eye when I'm done with this. Boot Camp is refusing to run unless I backup and format the hard drive. Just about ready to throw the thing out the window.

And why sell the software if they are going to exclude end-users?

No no no! Don't re-format!

Follow the instructions in my post, you just need to boot from your MacOS DVD, then open Disk Utilities and Repair the drive. A file or two got fragmented and can't be moved, but nothing is permanently broken!

They don't sell software to CPAP users, they sell it to doctors and DME's. In other words, we're not their target audience, and therefore they could care less if it works on our machines.

I thought EncorePro 2 that cpap.com sells is marketed to patients?

So Boot Camp setup wouldn't run because it says the following:

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved: Back up the disk and use Disk Format Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journal) Volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again".

Does this mean I have to format the drive? Is this because of having Parallels already having partitioned the drive?

I'm ready to stick a hot poker in my eye.

Right, this is not abnormal, but it does NOT require a re-format.

Insert your MacOS DVD (the one that came with the computer) and reboot, holding down the option key on your keyboard (Opt/Alt) from when you hear the BONG! until you see the boot selection icons. One will be your MacOS hard drive, the other will look like a DVD icon. Choose the DVD with the mouse or arrow keys and enter.

When the installer boots up, choose your language, but do NOT install the OS. Instead, go to the menu bar up top and choose tools or Utilities, then Disk Utilities. In Disk Utility, select your MacOS hard disk over on the left, then REPAIR the disk, don't format or erase it =)

After that is done, reboot normally and the Boot Camp tools should work.
