Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
Okay, maybe not raw, but there was some discomfort there from it rubbing on my nose. Anyone else have this problem? More importantly, how do you get rid of this problem?

Generally, it's not fit properly if you are having a problem like that. See my fitting tips for the Swift FX in my signature below (or check my blog).
Some people find a little bit of NON-petroleum goo helps--Lanisoh, Ayr gel, or KY Jelly. Some poeple swear that it helps with the seal, but I find it more difficult to seal with goop on.

Re: Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
The first couple nights that I had tried the Swift FX, my nose wasn't sore. Though, the back strap seemed to move around some during the night, and I was worried that it might make the pillows a little too loose, which could cause leaks. So I tightened the strap the next night, and I definitely regret doing that.(I wish I would have read more ahead of time that the strap is meant to have a loose fit). The next morning, my nostrils were very sore, and one of my nostrils was pretty swollen. I'm glad that I had another type of mask(nasal) to use for some of the other nights(during my 30 day mask trial period from the DME) after that in order to give my nose time to heal. I'm a little confused though when some people mention that the pillows aren't supposed to go into the nose at all. Cause if I don't have the cones in my nose some, I can hear the air coming out strongly, and the mask fit feature goes to a red face.

Some people are having success with these: http://www.padacheek.com/PACSwiftII_Barrel_cozy.html
I have never tried one but it might help.

Re: Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
The little tiny tips of the cones do go inside the nostril but just barely. Pillow rim rests against the nostril to form a barrier and seal. Some people have tried to insert the whole pillow including the rim or base in the nostril. OUCH..beyondtired wrote:I'm a little confused though when some people mention that the pillows aren't supposed to go into the nose at all. I have tried numerous nasal pillow masks. None will hurt unless the pillow is crammed too far into nostril or the straps are simply too tight. Minor tenderness, yes, because this nostril area isn't used to anything rubbing against it. Anything other than minor tenderness usually means the nasal pillows are maybe the wrong size or someone has the straps too tight. Unless they have tried to fit the whole thing up the nose....
Take the nasal pillows and gently place it against the nostril. If it takes too much pressure to seal, go up a size in the pillows.

I'm used to the extremely comfortable Headrest which is not being made any more because the factory burned down.boognish wrote:Okay, maybe not raw, but there was some discomfort there from it rubbing on my nose. Anyone else have this problem? More importantly, how do you get rid of this problem?
I have been testing the Swift FX.
I can state that without Padacheek's barrel cover and side covers, I'd've sent the d@mn thing back to the DME within a week.
I could go on at great length about what I don't like about this mask, never mind that it's amazingly popular.
However, I highly and strongly recommend Padacheek's products. They've turned a "dump it in the trash" mask into a dealable one.

Re: Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
I agree with the lady upstairs. I prefer my Opus 360 to my Swift FX, and can't for the life of me figure out why a mask that's $20 more than the Opus should be so inferior, yet so much more popular than the cheaper, better mask. Is a puzzlement.
However I have found a solution to the rubbing the schnoz raw problem, and that is either K-Y jelly or Astroglide. Both are ridiculously cheap compared to Ayr Gel, which is a fine product, but expensive when you use it every night. I've found that as the K-Y/Astroglide dries somewhat during the night, it sort of cements the nasal pillows to the nares, reducing leaks.
Re: the headgear, yes Padacheek makes great products. Far better than the pantyliners I experimented with. But let's not go there again.

Re: Swift FX rubbed my nose raw
I loosened things up quite a bit last night and didn't have any rubbing on my nose, but had more leaks. I think I'll just need to keep experimenting until I find the perfect fit. Thanks for all the responses.Janknitz wrote:Generally, it's not fit properly if you are having a problem like that. See my fitting tips for the Swift FX in my signature below (or check my blog).
