CPAP and nose pillows

Post by MichelleR » Sun Apr 10, 2011 5:48 pm

My nose pillows leave the inside of my nose sore, dry like. Can I put a little vaseline in the pillow? Or are there other suggestions as to get rid of the soreness. It's just inside my nose holes. I switched from a medium pillow to a small pillow, hoping that would do the trick, but still sore this morning and all day.

Thanks for any advice.

the pillows should fit against the nose, not go inside it. The instructions say to use the smallest pillow that won't go inside the nose. They seal by inflating against the nose. You can cause a lot of discomfort if the straps are over tightened, but may not feel the soreness till the next day. Petroleum products will destroy silicon pillows, Try Ayr Saline nasal gel donnt know if the aloe will harm the pillows or not.

It would help to know which mask you are using and the pressure.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! My favorite subject. Nasal irritation. Two words: K-Y Jelly. Or Astroglide. Little bit on your little finger, lube the inside of your nares and the pillows won't chap you any longer. And as the stuff slowly dries, it thickens and forms a better seal, reducing leaks. Great stuff. And far cheaper than Ayr Gel, and, being water based, it won't destroy your silicone pillows like Vick's, or Vaseline will eventually do.

Vasoline is not advised because it is harmful to the mask material and also potentially harmful to the lungs.

Any other moisturizing agent would be acceptable as long as it wasn't petroleum based.

I wear the opus pillows. They don't go inside my nose, but the tiny piece the blows the oxygen does sit just on the inside.

I'm a big fan of Nozoil. Developed specifically for people on CPAP and oxygen to prevent drying out.
