I'll be leaving now :-)
Really done this time....
8 1/2 years...MOSTLY off the CPAP because of masks issues...or mouth breathing....or noise......
This weekend, I took off the mask, and packed the machine away for good. I spent ALLLL night listening to farting noises.
Yes, I've tried it all. They don't MAKE a mask that works for me...a mouth breather.
I will wait till there's a mask that works. Surely, they will invent something eventually that will be comfortable and work.
Until then, I get to finally snuggle up to my husband at night. It's been a long 8 1/2 years...he's so tired of me complaining about the machine, and I don't blame him.
I will still read here occasionally...mainly waiting for a mask invention that would work for me.
see ya later

Barb,
That's a real shame.
Sorry it has come to this for you.
Please, whatever you, be sure to monitor your health.
I've not followed these posts enough to know your situation or how severe your apnea is, but regardless, if you do this, you should be even more vigilant as to your health needs, IMHO.
I wish this wasn't so, but if it has to be this way, please keep an open mind as you go forward, and keep abreast of what's going on in the apnea world, and certainly check in here whenever you can. I'm sure you have lots of friends here who will want to know how you are doing. I certainly do. Just take care of yourself.

Barb I know this might come a little late, but in four months Hans Rudolph is coming out with a mask that will be made for just that person.
You send a digital picture of your face to the HR people through your DME and the mask will be made foryour face in one to tow days. Once they get this perfected then us mouth breathers will be able to do the same.
I sure wish you would have tried the Hans Rudolph V7600 4 hole that would be your correct size.

Barb,
What happened? Last I knew, you had finally posted that you were getting help, had found a solution after so long and things were turning around for the better. Then you disappeared for awhile and now you are saying you're giving it all up.
I know how frustrated you must have felt to have made a decision like this after almost nine years of trying to make it work. No one could...or should ever call you a quitter. You really have hung in there. I guess you must know that you've tried it all and just can't find something that you can tolerate.
I'm so sorry that there is nothing you feel works for you. Maybe Sharon (Severeena) has something there with this new mask coming out. Please promise us all you will look after yourself and monitor your health as best as you can. And please keep your eyes wide open for something you may want to try in the future that you think looks promising. I will say a prayer for your safety and your well being.

as a last alternative, you might want to check out the Aveo TSD device that I am lab-ratting at the moment. I haven't confirmed that it could be used in place of CPAP, and it certainly does have its own "learning curve" and comfort issues, but it does at least seem to reduce OSA. I am using it in ADDITION to CPAP so far, but it does seem to help IF a significant portion of your apnea is tongue related.
It might be better that than nothing at all for your apnea, if it would work out for you. Its pricey at $150, but shouldn't break the bank to give it a shot anyway. The Aveo are looking for feedback right now. If get a dialogue going with them, they MIGHT even let you lab rat a sample in trade for feedback.
I am actually doing OK with CPAP right now, but certainly do not like it or particularly get along with it, so I am ALWAYS looking for something better.

Barb,
I am a mouth breather & have a f/f and not only was I getting fed up with the mask f*rts but my wife was getting fed up with my aerophagia.
After switching to a BiLevel 15/8 both went away & I am one happy boy.
The mask squeaks are as you say, a problem the mask makers have in getting a perfect seal. This has just not really been achived. The squeaks are clearly worse when one is on CPAP & high cms & a f/f mask.
Anyway, I understand your issues. Was great having you as part of cpaptalk & good luck.
Cheers
Doug

Barb,
I'm sorry to see you go. Please stay lurking around for any breakthroughs. I know when I tried two different ff masks at the beginning of my treatment last September they didn't work. My pressure was 14 and the Ultra Mirage kept making rude sounds and waking me up. the F&P seemed to keep a good seal, but my nose got very cold and it seemed I wasn't getting enough air. Hopefully Hans Rudolph will be able to perfect their technology and offer a new ff mask soon and you can try that.
Take care of yourself.

Some can be better than none...
Barb,
One last thing to consider before abandoning CPAP altogether...
Did you know that some CPAP pressure is better than no CPAP pressure? Before quiting CPAP altogether, consider lowering your pressure to find a more tolerable level of therapy. Who knows? You just might be able to lower your pressure enough to get rid of those mask seal issues, and yet still address many, MANY of your apneas!
Best of luck to you, Barb!
