Hello everyone. I am 31 years old and just started on CPAP.
I kinda diagnosed myself, being a Paramedic and familiar with medical conditions, I went to my PCP and told her I think I have SA. She referred me to sleep study and sure enough was correct, and was ordered a CPAP with a 10.0cm H2O peep.
I do not know what my original AHI was, I do not see the sleep medicine doc for another month.
I have the ResMed S9 Elite with humidifier and regular slimline tubing and a quattro FX face mask.
I also downloaded and installed the ResScan 3.13 to track my numbers.
I have only been using the CPAP for 3 nights now, so I am not using the numbers for anything other than information right now...
But a couple issues I have noticed. Started with a humidity setting of 4.0 and ended up with a very dry mouth the first night. The second night I bumped it up to 5.0, but also did not have the heat on in the house, and temp probably dropped to the 50's inside. I woke up with a mask full of water and lots of rain out in tubing. I adjusted it back down to 4.5 and also made sure to leave the heat on overnight. No water or rainout the next night, so I think that is good.
I am on average of an AHI of about 4.8, I am sure this will change as I adapt to the mask. My concern is two nights in a row I have woken up with the plastic elbow on the mask having come off the mask. Looking at the results it was about 10 minute period of the tube being off each night. Is this something that as I stop moving around in the night it will stop coming off?
If my average over the next month stays at the same level I will probably bump the pressure up just a bit. I have a AI of about 3.3 and a HI of of course about 1.5. With 2.5 being OSA and 0.8 being CSA.
I guess just wondering if my thought process on everything is correct or if anyone sees any glaring errors in my logic.

Which mask are you using? Please list equipment as Den has suggested. It helps us help you better and faster.tgulch wrote:the plastic elbow on the mask having come off the mask. Welcome to the forum, tgulch. People who have the same mask you have will probably have good ideas on how to keep the hose from slipping off.

You got your equipment listed now, tgulch, so the screenshot below is for other newly registered people who'd like to list theirs:Hawthorne wrote:Would the "Quick connect" things from cpap.com work? I use those at every connection - where my main hose connects to the mask and where the main hose connects to the humidifier on my PR System One.
There are also short lengths of hoses that would give you a little more distance between the mask and the main hose. This helped me with some nasal masks I used in the past. The hose seemed to pop off with short connection of the mask.

Re: New CPAPer
I saw that post, and it isnt the hose itself coming off, the plastic elbow going into the mask is popping off, I am thinking it is just the tubing is caught on somthing and I am turning over or something and it is popping off because of the pulling. I am hoping it will stop as I get used to the mask and stop tossing and turning so much.rested gal wrote:Welcome to the forum, tgulch. If you continue to toss and turn... try hanging your hose. Could be as simple as hanging it over the head of your bed.
