Recommendations for a recording pulseoximeter

Post by Guest » Sat Apr 02, 2011 11:24 am

I've got my AHI down near 5 with the OSA's below 1 and the rest mostly CSA's
That means my ins. co. is unlikely to spring for a new ASV machine after only 5 months on an auto Bipap with that kind of result.

So ... I'd like to check my desats to see if I'm keeping them above 90%.
If that's the case, in all likelihood, I'm getting about as good as I can with my current machine.

Any recommendations for a recording pulseoximeter?

I see about three styles out there and there may be others.
1) Fingertip only
2) Wrist with a cable to the finger
3) Bluetooth to a separate recorder

Thanks for any help or suggestions

CMS-50F wrist oximeter. I'm much happier with this one. Comfort and ease of use. I bought the finger model first.

I use this one as well and really like it. Even my doctor was impressed when she saw that I had purchased it.

I originally bought the CMS-60D - a hand-held with 4 ft finger lead, but if I were to buy a new one, I'd probably go with the wrist version too. I saw that the 50D lasts about eight hours on a charge. Is this the case, or will it last longer? Is the lithium battery replaceable? (I wish it used AA or AAA batteries like the 60-D.)

I see the CMS-50F wrist oximeter for $150 from Amazon. Anyone know of a cheaper source?

Be sure and read the customer reviews on that particular supplier on Amazon.

I bought one on ebay from bestbid818 and got ripped off. They had a decent rating. I think they got it by being very clever about jerking customers around until the expiration date ebay places on leaving feedback.

Be very careful who you buy from.

If you bought it recently, file a complaint with the seller. If there is no response, file a complaint with Ebay. They have a process, and it's fairly painless, if tedious. You may still get your money back.

I've bought a number of things ridiculously cheaply from china. Whenever I've had a problem on ebay, I've always gotten my money back.
That price on a Contec Wrist Oximeter looks great.
I'm still curious from those who have it whether the battery is user-replaceable.

Mine was $112.00 w/free shipping from DHgate.com. Delivery was reasonable from China.

DreamDiver, The 50F has screws in the back, so I imagine I will be able to replace the battery without destroying it.
My finger pulse is a 50H and recorded up to 24 hours.
The other big plus for me with the 50F is having a built in clock so I don't have to set it everytime.
The manual is in better English too.

I've purchased two CMS-50F from China on ebay, the last one was $100 delivered from contecmedical2010. Their price varies from about $100 - $140. Service was excellent. It's critical to check their feedback, but I've never had any problems with reputable Asian suppliers.

Getting one from your doc is an option, but I would just get one.
My dad had an overnight oximetry that medicare paid $385.00 for. The probe was on his finger and a cable attached to the box on the nightstand. The results were inconclusive. Mostly because he wasn't used to wearing it. We had to pick it up, take it back by a set time the morning after, not get the results for 2 weeks and have to push to get a copy of the report. And didn't learn a thing!!
If you have your own, you don't have to rely on a "professional" to read it.
The other advantages are...
Convincing yourself you do need CPAP.
Evaluating those little naps in the recliner without the CPAP...?
In the event of a power outage, I will wear mine with the alarm. I would prefer the arousals to the desats.
It's also handy to have to loan to friends/family that you suspect have sleep apnea.

I've about decided to get a CMS-50D plus.

It records, does USB, takes AAA batteries, has software, and only costs $84 plus shipping. Not necessarily "THE" best, but looks adequate and fairly cheap. I'm not sure I "really" need one, but it sounds like it's worth trying.
