New to CPAP & Side Sleeper - Head Pillow Recommendations

Post by swfslovenian » Fri Apr 01, 2011 9:48 am

Hi,

I am new to CPAP - just finished my first week. I am a part side/part stomach sleeper (if that makes any sense). I think that I would like to purchase a new head pillow (not nasal pillows) to support me in this new adventure. Does anybody have any recommendations, please?

Thanks!

You are going to get lots of ideas because we all have different preferences and use different pillows.

I use the Regensis buckwheat hull pillow. It allows me to side and tummy sleep and make a "spot" for the mask. I also have a bad neck so it helps me with that discomfort also. For my situation, it is my best alternative. Large firm pillows don't work so well with a metal plate in the spine, they give me an awful headache from muscle tension.

What sort of pillow are you using now?

I'm a side/stomach sleeper, and after trying a few different pillows have settled on the Regenesis pillow, which is filled with buckwheat hulls. I love this pillow as it's fully adjustable and tends to stay in place quite well, plus you can remove or add hulls to suit yourself.

I'm still a bit of a newbie at CPAP, so others will have a lot of ideas.

Cheers,
xena

Hi swfslovenian and welcome - above is the type of pillow I have - memory foam contour pillow.
Also . . . have a look at http://www.padacheeck.com for strap covers - it is a must have!

The "double edge" PAPillow works well for me.

Whenever I feel like a change, I use a very smushable "Shapeable Pillow" from Target.

Here's another recommendation for a buckwheat hull pillow. Although I've only recently started CPAP therapy, I purchased a "Sobakawa" pillow way back when (if you remember the commercials on TV ). It's a buckwheat hull pillow. I was please to see how well it accommodates my mask while sleeping on my side.

I use the regenesis buckwheat pillow that I read about on this forum. It's great for side sleeping even with a full face mask (I use a Quattro)

For those who use the Regeneris, do most of you use all the hulls that came with it? It's hard for me to judge what will be the most comfortable for my husband as he doesn't give me much of an opinion either way. He's been using the SleepPapPillow but it's finally getting flat so I wanted to try the Regeneris again that we bought a long time ago that he wasn't able to adjust to at the time. Thanks.
