F&P Icon Auto

Post by Bugdude » Tue Mar 22, 2011 2:15 am

Hi,

Is there anyone who uses the F&P Icon Auto? I'm going to be buying my first CPAP machine and I'm trying to decide between the Resmed S9 Auto (which I've been using in my CPAP trial) or the F&P Icon Auto.

So is the F&P Icon Auto any good?

whether it's good or not... it's really hard to get software on the Icon, and there's no exhale relief.

Go with the S9

I agree with cflame1, I still can't find the software and it is a pain not having the exhale relife...
Thank you,

I emailed F&P: they said the software is available and that the ICON Auto does do exhale relief.

Woops, the guest poster above was me.

F&P said in the email, "the software is available as long as you can supply a letter from your phsyician authorising its use". So I guess we regular folk can have access.

It is extremely hard to get that letter and don't count on getting it.

Without software (especially if available only on the whim of your doctor) and exhalation relief;
I would not recommend the Icon to anyone.
So what if it looks cool; the bedroom lights are out when I sleep--I can't see a thing.

Well I've emailed my contact at the sleep clinic to see if I can get my hands on the software.

I've got no idea: I was only told it's there.

And my sleep person is saying that patients aren't allowed the software...

Per machine info at cpap.com Whether this can be turned off or adjusted I don't know. Perhaps Icon users can explain or comment as to how they like it.

F & P Icon calls their exhale relief SensAwake.

SensAwake Technology

SensAwake is a pressure relief technology that addresses user intolerance for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy. Comfort is critical during an awakened state, particularly for new users who have difficulty returning back to sleep when CPAP pressures are high. SensAwake monitors CPAP airflow and reduces pressure levels when respiration becomes irregular. Irregular breathing is a general marker that a user is transitioning from a sleep state to an awakened state. This personalized treatment prevents users from awakening and ultimately improves therapy effectiveness

Bugdude and Ref you can access the clinician's menu without the software. Go to apnea board at
http://www.apneaboard.com/CPAP%20Adjustment.htm

Scroll down until you see the instruction for Fisher Paykel..

Thanks for the info Ms. S, I have been there. The SensAwake option is nothing like exhalation relief that Is on the Resp. PR system 1 Auto. SensAwake is just what it says, it can tell if you are coming out of a normal sleep pattern and will reduce the pressure on it's own. On the PR system 1, every breath on exhale will reduce the pressure by as much as 3 or 4 depending on what you have it set to with C-Flex or A-Flex.

Getting back to your question Bugdude, I have not used the S9 but I have used the PR system 1 and the F&P Icon Auto. I like the PR System 1 better because of the Flex. I'm sure the S9 has a similar option as well I don't what it's called right now. I did have a ResMed S8 Elite and it was ok. Don't know if it compairs to the S9 though.
Hope that helps......
Thank you,

FWIW, I have been using the F&P Icon Premo, not the Icon Auto, for about 9 months and I think it's great!

The F&P InfoSmart software is available. I have bought it.

The link mentioned above for manually changing the settings is accurate.

Best regards,

-Nick
