Anybody know of a good non Resmed FFM?

Post by EricinNC » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:56 pm

I have had good success with the Resmed Mirage Quattro FFM. Resmed makes good masks (up to now at least, whether that will remain is another story based upon their current machines). However, I am totally disgusted with the company of Resmed based upon the following:

1) Their current era APAPs absolutely suck compared to PR APAPs and older era Resmed APAPs. The current era Resmed APAPs are slow and full of gimmicks and more marketing hype than substance

2) Resmed has made it very difficult to obtain their software for patients to use...this is not my chief complaint but is a major complaint I have read others discuss here...many complaints about Resmed on the software.

3) Resmed's "new and improved" electrical climate control hose is a gimmicky joke that just complicates treatment and does not provide adequate humidification. I experienced a stuffy nose within three or four days of using that electrical hose with another S9 I was loaned by my DME back in February. It went away when I went to regular slimline hoses with traditional heated humidification.

4) Resmed's S9 heated humidification barely heats the water up compared to past Resmed S8s

5) Resmed has started making the humidifier out of cheap, easily broken plastic compared to their older model S8s. PR continues making their humidifier pot out of sturdy type plastic that does not break easily if accidentally dropped.

5) Resmed has a very "corporate" culture obviously that is anti-consumer and anti-patient

6) Resmed has a bad attitude

My Father is an industrial designer who used to work for DuPont Chemical company and while not a designer myself, I have enough of my father's inclination in industrial design to spot a shoddy product when I use it or see it, especially when I have prior experience with good quality gear.

These are my personal assessments and opinions on the current company of Resmed. I dont like Resmed. I recently experienced a major upheaval in my life BECAUSE OF shoddy Resmed equipment that is weak and did not treat my OSA effectively.

And Resmed wants $853 for their premo S9 APAP?!? LOL hahahaha.....

Its really worth about $300...seriously. Thats about all the S9 is really worth.

I want to disassociate myself from Resmed if at all possible in the future. This leads me to asking this: Whats a good full face mask besides a Resmed model? Does Respironics make a good FFM that handles jaw drop as well as the Quattro? I have tried the Fisher and Pykel FFM and ended up throwing them away, they were worthless at handling jaw drop.

TIA

Eric

I wonder how much it costs Resmed to manufacture an S9 APAP?

$50 maybe? Then they sell it to you for $853 and it is shoddy made.

I had a Quatto Full Face Mask and while it was okay, I could get it to seal, I was just given a FlexiFit 431. It is MUCH better. It has a cup that cradles your chin and keeps your mouth semi-closed. It's the best one I've had and I've been through several. I have to have a full face mask because I am a mouth breather, and that's not going to change, chin strap or no.

While not a FFM, I swear by the Respironics FitLife Total Face Mask. I usually can be worn under the chine as welol as in the crease betwee3n the bottom lip and chin.
I usually get 0.0 leaks.
