1 Year on CPAP
Hi,
Just wanted to pop in and say I just made one year on CPAP. I have been totally compliant and am feeling so much better. So newbies, there is hope. I never thought I could feel awake again and not feel as though I needed to sleep all the time. I can say I am no longer needing daily naps just to make it through the day. I did learn however, that sleep hygiene is very important and you can't stop doing it.
My ahi is below 1 almost every day and I feel like a new person.

My "Anniversary" is tomorrow--on my machine. I had about 30 days on a titration machine first, but I'm counting March 30th as THE day.

Congrats to everybody else. It's funny how at first you look at the machine with dread, and now I could not sleep with out my "darth vader" machine. I seriously love this thing.

At what point in time did you notice the difference? I'm going on 3 months, and I can't tell if it's working or not. I still feel really tired in the early afternoon, and would love to take a nap. The one good thing is that I'm no longer keeping my wife awake with my snoring.

Re: 1 Year on CPAP
For me it was at least at the six month mark. I too, thought it would never happen.

Congrats to all 3 of you! The first year is the hardest, it gets easier from there.

Re: 1 Year on CPAP
Almost four years on CPAP! All but three months of that has been successful therapy. Some advice for the future. Never get complacent, once you are feeling better and working and your life becomes more normal again, its easy to just kind of forget about your gear except for getting resupplies like new masks, hoses, filters. ALWAYS ALWAYS have a backup machine that you are 100% confident in that will get the job done as good as your original machine. My backup, I knew it did not work like my original, but kept it anyway because I was worn out arguing with DMEs. BIG MISTAKE.
Always keep a backup that works. That should probably be rule #2 of successful CPAP use after rule # 1, which is "be 100% compliant."
Also, if you need to lose weight your therapy will become more effective. I found a weight loss of twenty pounds made a huge difference in how I felt while on APAP. The weight loss IMPROVED my therapeutic results.
