CPAP Pressure

Post by brinho » Tue Mar 29, 2011 2:26 pm

Lately i had trouble with a congested nose which made it difficult to use my cpap but since i had a turbinectomy i can breathe through my nose perfectly. However when i sleep with my cpap i feel tired and i wake up unusually early. After thinking about it i wandered if my current pressure could be causing this trouble since my air way is more open, but im not sure.

I just want to know if having the wrong pressure could make you wake up at strange hours in the night as if your experiencing an apnea.

Using APAP with pressure ranges can disrupt sleep if the pressure increases or changes causes awakenings.
Wrong pressure settings could be letting events sneak past the defenses causing awakenings.
Leaks can cause pressure to increase and cause awakenings.
Leaks themselves can cause awakenings.

Do you have the software to see what might be going on?

You use APAP? At what settings? What was your titrated pressure? Do you have the software to monitor data more closely? Do you have any other health issues that can affect restorative sleep quality? Pain? Meds? Do you wake up frequently during the night? Have trouble going to sleep? How many hours of sleep are you getting?

For me (or anyone else) to hazard a guess if your pressure is causing problems since the surgery would be irresponsible. There are simply too many other factors that might be involved. One might be that the pressure changes during the APAP mode could be disturbing your sleep. If you are thinking that you might get by with a lower pressure then again, are you using APAP or CPAP and at what levels? Exhale relief?
