Round White Bacteria Filters

Post by Pirateghost » Sat Mar 26, 2011 7:20 pm

I bought some of those filters. I am amazed on how quick they get dirty. I live in what I consider a really clean home. Wood floors, dusted mopped, etc. all the time. No indoor pets. Real good filters on the house air system. Windows kept shut. I wish I had been using these all along.

Interesting though I have been seeing some occasional black specks on the filter. They almost look like small flecks of paint. Somehow these are coming from inside the machine. I have the regular small filter on the back, machine, bacterial filter, humidifier, hose, mask.

I had my Dr. give me a script so my insurance can buy them. I think it said change them when they become discolored. That seems too often for me.

Round white bacteria filters?? it appears from your profile, that you have a Respironics M Series machine.

I had one of those machines and the white filters were rectangular (same size and shape as the black foam ones for that machine except with a little tab).

I think he/she refers to a separate filter housing that attaches to the hose.

I used them from last spring up to this winter and must order some more. I don't use the humidifier in the summer and like the way the filters help my allergies. Are you using your humidifier? If so the filter could be picking up moisture from the air causing the filters to show specks of mold (possibly). I stopped using these filters once I went back to using the humidifier in passover mode since I didn't want to risk getting caught up in the mold issues. Once I no longer need the pass over mode (or any humidifier at all) I will once again use these filters.

How fast do you mean, Pirate?

Each one lasts me about 3 weeks. It's a little gray after 2, though.

I, too, get good allergy relief from them.

Here's what I don't know: suppose mold grows on the machine side of the filter, but cannot cross the filter and get into your lungs. Is there any reason to be concerned?

The filters are before my humidifier. They start turning grey within 2 weeks. I thought perhaps that was abnormal, but apparently not.

It is not a problem as long as when you change the filter you make sure that none of the mold drops into the hose on the back side of the filter.
