Hey folks,
I'm a newbie and been using an S8 Escape II (which they just sold me 3 weeks ago at the sleep study center...but I hear is discontinued??). Anyway, is the Resmed ResScan™ Smart Card Reader for S8 worth buying...that is, does it provide enough information, or just basic compliance info?
I'm having a problem with too much air getting into my gut, and would like to maybe reduce from a 9 to an 8 but would like to look at the data. If this is a worthwhile machine and Smart Card Reader I will fork out the dough for the reader. Otherwise, I will lobby to get a better (data-capable) machine.
Thanks!
OK, now it looks like this reader is no longer available!! Any advice? Looked on amazon, too. Nothing.
Thanks again!!

WORTH BUYING? ResScan Smart Card Reader for S8
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub
Re: WORTH BUYING? ResScan Smart Card Reader for S8
The card reader allows for more details than what you see on the LED screen, like graphs. Much more than compliance. Though on screen data is better than no data. Just missing mainly the leak graph and seeing if there is any pattern to the events.
Just looked and only place I know of is Ebay. There are a few there. Seems to be from Israel. Starting bid $75, buy it now price $99. OUCH. A person can make their own card reader. Many here have. Forget exactly what was used. ACR some number and it has been discussed on this forum, a search for ACR should get you pointed there.
I would be raising heck about being supplied a machine that has been discontinued for quite some time. Any chance of swapping it for S9 data capable (avoid Escape) as those machines have a simple SD card?

your machine will only give you hours used (aka compliance information). You'd have to get at least an Elite (if not an Autoset) in order to make the purchase of the smart card reader worth it.

I totally missed the Escape part. I don't see equipment when I type reply and I just missed it in reading.
Nothing will help that Escape except swap it for a data capable. Time to stand up and do it is now while still in early time frame of use.
Do you know if your insurance is a one time purchase or rent to own?

Unfortunately, the version of the ACR38 card reader that was compatible with the S8 smart cards is no longer available. The current versions use universal drivers that are not compatible with ResScan.
And I'll restate what others have said. The Escape model does not provide any data worth having. The card reader would be a waste of money. If you can upgrade to either the Elite or AutoSet, that's another story.
Also, the new S9 series uses standard SD cards instead of the smart card. Any generic SD reader will work with the SD card.

I am sorry, I don't really understand... I don't have a good understanding of the terms you are using.jdm2857 wrote:Unfortunately, the version of the ACR38 card reader that was compatible with the S8 smart cards is no longer available. Is there a way to get data off the card that came with my Resmed VPAP S? Can anybody tell me what I need to do to get the data? I almost bought a card reader, but now it sounds like the card readers are out dated and will no longer work. is this correct??? Nothing is ever easy...
I would really appreciate any help here- Thanks

Re: WORTH BUYING? ResScan Smart Card Reader for S8
The ACR 38 type of card USED to work with some modifications on the ResMed S8 series machines. Apparently this particular type of card has been discontinued.
This card will work though. It is just hard to find. Only ones I have seen are from outside US
But I see one now in NJ, used.
