I have been using a Respironics System One CPAP machine every night for about 10 months. A while ago it began to intermittently not start immediately upon having the start button pushed - sometimes it does stat immediately other times it seems to have to go through one to 3 "cycles" and then it starts. This seems to several minutes, but I am sure in reality it may be 20 to 30 seconds.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know why and or how to fix it?
Thanks!
System One - Delayed Start
Re: System One - Delayed Start
Take it back to your provider for repair or replacement. The early PR S1s seem to have myriad problems w/starting and stopping.

Re: System One - Delayed Start
I noticed you have a Full Face mask listed as your mask. The few times I've used a FF mask with just about any machine (any brand) that has an "auto on" feature, I've noticed the machine(s) often need "heavier" breathing in and out to pick up that airflow is happening.lars4life wrote:Mine is a System One Bipap Pro, 2011 model. it detects you breathing. It works 75% of the time. Sometimes I have to push the start button,
but the start button always works.
I think that's probably because the anti-asphyxiation valve that FF masks have (and other type of masks don't have) is open until the air flow from the machine pushes it shut. While you're breathing, but machine has not started yet, that valve is open, letting a lot of your airflow escape. If you're breathing "easy" on those first few breathes, there probably isn't enough force in your airflow to trigger "auto on" to start the machine.
I thought Auto On was disabled with ResMed machines when Full Face was selected as the "mask" setting, but maybe I'm remembering that wrong.
That said, I also noticed that even with non-FF masks, Respironics machines (M series and especially the older pre-M machines) were not as sensitively quick to start up from my breathing as ResMed machines, even the older S7's are. Almost the least hint of breathing happening would trigger the ResMed machines to wake up and get going. Haven't tried that with a PR1 machine.
I almost always just push the On button, but I can see how Auto On would be handy for people whose machine is a little too far away from the bed to reach the button easily after they've put the mask on.
