May be getting a new mask
May be getting a new mask
I'm having mixed emotions on this mask... a medium Quattro FX. This morning I woke up and it had slid up my nose and was resting over the corners of my eyes. Not the first time. I called DME and my lady was out of the office for the rest of the day. The guy covering the phone suggested pulling the back strap down as low as I can get it. Seems to me like that would affect the bottom hook-ups. Should I try the top adjustment first?

Hi,
Have you been sized for both the mask and the head gear? From the numberous posts, at this site, the mask runs big and the head gear runs small. I normally use a medium Quattro FFM but I size as a small for a FX but need a medium/standard head gear. Have that "out of the office" DME check to see if you are properly sized.
Cheers

Re: May be getting a new mask
I find the opposite. The mask runs small and the headgear runs big with the Quattro. I use a small in every other brand and model, but a medium in the Quattro (partly because it has to tilt back to my receding chin), but the medium headgear is WAY too big, and they package medium headgear on small quattros as well.the mask runs big and the head gear runs small. I normally use a medium Quattro FFM but I size as a small for a FX but need a medium/standard head gear.
I've had to pull the top back of the headgear and actually sew it down against the back of the headgear (I know, I have a new phone and will try to post pics).
As for fitting tips, see my "Taming the Mirage Quattro" below.

Re: May be getting a new mask
Hello
I just got the med and large Quattro FX to try out Weds for 1 week. The measurement tool suggests that i am a large.
So far the med seems to work good, the odd time i get a couple of leaks. The cushion seems to fit snug around the mouth like it just covers the mouth.
I tried on the large which seem to give alittle more room around the mouth. To night i will try the large and see how it goes. I think the large might be a better fit.
As for the med head band there seem to be lots of room. It surprized me that i did not have to have it tight at all. My pressure is 16 and all the other masks i have tried i had to have the straps pretty tight.
Lets see how the large fits tonight. I will post results.

Re: May be getting a new mask
Well i have been lucky to try both a large and a med FX.
I first thought that the med was to small so i went to the large. The large FX i t felt better around the mouth but i could not get the leaks under control. They were not large leaks but there were a few small leaks. I tried different positions on my noe but no luck. I tighten the mask i loosen the mask but nope still leaks.
So i went back to the med 2 nights ago. I found that it was smaller around the mouth but when i put it on i had no leaks at all. I slept with it on all night with no problems. I sleep on my back and on my sides durring the night.
I had a regular Quattro in med before but found it very hard on the nose. I had to stop using it because of a sore.
I like the FX very much it does not bother my nose at all. I will be buying the med FX for sure. The head gear is not to big or small there is enough room for adjustments.
Thanks

Re: May be getting a new mask
I have used a med FX for 2 nights. I think it has a lot of potential to be more comfortable than the Mirage or the Ultra Mirage. It does not seem to impact my nose bridge which the Mirage really did. I used a padacheek liner with the other masks and I am going to fool around with my liner (or make a temporary homemade one) to see if I can adapt it for the FX because I do not see any on the padacheek site yet for the FX. It's smaller and lighter and I think the headgear is much better designed. The first night I had a lot of leaks but last night my leak was low and acceptable after I tightened the lower straps. I would think that strap covers and a liner would be coming soon from padacheek and I bet this will be a VERY wearable mask when that happens.
about the size: my quattro mirage is small and my ultra mirage is medium. I sized between sm and med for the FX so I got the medium.
