data card beeping?

Post by DebMA » Wed Mar 16, 2011 8:54 pm

I've had my PR machine since November, and been relatively compliant (maybe two nights out of each month w/o usage). I am still very tired and I've been hoping that a follow up w/my dr (scheduled for next month) will shed some light on why I am not feeling very much better, even w/what looks like decent AHI and lack of large leaks. When the respiratory therapist came to my house the first time to set it up (new, out of the box), the SD card that came w/the machine made a fast beeping sound when inserted. She said, must be a problem w/the card. In December she sent me a card to upload all the data to generate a report (which she said she would send to me, no problem; as an aside, she said she had never had a client ever request to see their own report!). Three weeks later, she called to say the card only had a few weeks of data, had I been using my cpap? I said yes, she said, "oh well, something went wrong w/the data transfer, I will send you out another card". Couple weeks later, here comes the card (I think she must only work part time, because every time she needs to do something it takes a couple of weeks...). Put the card in, (no beeping), leave it in overnight, send it back. End of February, she calls to say again, same problem, she has called the company, they can't figure out what's wrong, blah blah blah, they assume i must not be pushing the card in all the way (uh, no), they're sending another card. I put it in a few nights ago, and the machine is doing the constant beeping and gives an error message on the screen (SD card error; remove and reinsert). Spoke to the resp therapist and she said that this has NEVER happened and that the company is going to ship me a modem to send the information over the phone. I said, OK, but the more I think about it, I just want a new machine. As it is, I may have just gone almost five months without any data collection... since the display only gives weekly and monthly averages, I find that information not so helpful, and was looking forward to the full reports to get useful information.

Has anyone heard of/experienced this type of data card error? Do you think I"m justified in asking for a new machine?

My unit beeps once if I put the card in correctly. If I put it in backwards, or upside down, or both; it beeps twice and shows a C1 error on the screen. Assuming you are getting the card in correctly, it sounds like the unit may have a fault.

If I was you I would ask for a new machine. If you have try several different cards and they get the same results it's not the card it's the machine the problem.

I have had the card beeping non stop a couple of times, then I take it out and in again and the non stop beeping stops. I have never had information missing in my card/machine. Don't accept the modem as a permanent solution ask for a machine working 100% not in part.

The fact that the therapist had never seen something like that means nothing. Everything is possible with a machine, those are simple human inventions so it's normal that something goes wrong even something very rear to break down.
