S9 Defective?????

Post by swtsassy65 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 2:00 pm

I got a new S9 about 3 weeks ago. Everything was going fine until a week ago.
My family kept waking me up telling me the machine was squealing real loud and making weird noises.
Of course I woke up and the dang thing stopped. The next day
I noticed all my settings were gone and the card was blank.

I called my DME yesterday they did come out and exchange it the same day. So far working good and no problems. But we will see. I am not holding my breather after the last one.
Well I downloaded last nights data and even the pressure
was down and better the the old one. Now I am wondering if that was off to. I went from a 14.8 to
12. And the mask and set up were the same. Noting different.

The funny thing is the RT said that mine was the 3rd one they had to replace in a month.

Anyone hear anything about this? or had the same problem?

I'm not sure if they're as well built as the previous S8. I did a comparison last year, and that was one thing I noticed. My current S9, which I bought in December last year, had its fan replaced in December (getting vibration and noise back through the hose) and this month, when the new fan started to develop a high pitched noise that gave my wife headaches (but which I could barely hear, probably due to age.... ). This is the third fan and is, happily, fan-tastic. Bit of a whistle on exhale, but disappears by the time I wake up. Otherwise quiet unit. The only problem is the bottom plastic bit has about a millimetre of movement, which is probably due to them opening the box. However, on the table the unit works. Anyway, purchased a 5 year warranty and have my old S8 II as a back up, so not too concerned.

That said, the therapy provided by both units is excellent. AI often between 0.2 and 0.6 each night (sometimes hit 0, but not often) with either unit, so can't complain.

Over the last year I've noticed quite a few posts about people having problems with the newest generations of the PR System One and the ResMed S9 machines. On the other hand, there have been some problems with their previous generations, too.
I really doubt that they test this stuff enough before putting it on the market. Good thing they have warranties.

Hi. First, I purchased the machine as an individual and not through an insurance company (although I got $500 back from my health insurance company, HCF).

In Australia you get a 5 year warranty for the xPap (not for humidifier or mask or anything) by paying an additional $99 at time to the DME and becoming a member of SleepVantage. I don't know about the US, but in Oz you get an additional year free just by becoming a member of "SleepVantage" regardless (so 3 year warranty) and the $99 buys an additional 2 years to add to the 3 years, thereby making 5.

Not sure if there's something similar in the US...
