New to the world of CPAP
Just completed my first night on CPAP last night. I can see it will take a bit of getting used to. I Feel pretty tired today, so most likely did not have a restful sleep last night. Only side-effect I notice so far is I feel more congested and my nose is a bit runny. Is this normal for the first few days?
Re: New to the world of CPAP
Congestion can end up being a problem, so you need to jump on it.
The biggest cause of nasal congestion with CPAP is usually the humidifier turned up too high, but some people need more humidity. If you started out with your humidifier on a middle setting, try turning it down a notch.
We also recommend that people practice good "nasal hygiene" to keep the tissues moist and clear. This means using a saline rinse or neti pot, and if necessary talk to your doctor about an oral antihistamine and/or nasal steroid spray. AVOID decongestants and sprays like AFRIN. They will give you short term relief and long term "rebound" that is hard to overcome.
Drink plenty of fluids, too, to keep your system nice and moist and flush out bad stuff.

Re: New to the world of CPAP
When I got my first CPAP, I was told it would take me a "couple of weeks" to adjust. It took me about six months. After that I couldn't sleep without it. Even if I take a nap, which I do from time to time , I use my CPAP.
Hang in there! It gets better with time.

Please go to the "user control panel" at the upper left side and fill in the equipment you have. People will be able to help you better that way with specific suggestions for your machine and mask.WantSomeSleep wrote:Just completed my first night on CPAP last night.
