Best place to sell a Respironics Stardust II

Post by greasolution » Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:50 am

I have a Stardust at home sleep study set up that I no longer have a need for. Where is the best place to sell one of these?

I apologize if I am incorrect... I had a cpap machine from my ex... and the therapy place I got my cpap from told me it is illegal to sell, since you need a prescription to get them... Just my 2 cents.

Is that a good site? I'm not familar with it. What I am selling is not a CPAP machine...

Yes, cpcpauction is an excellent site. They handle the prescription requirements for you. It's a sister site to cpap.com and THIS site! You can't go wrong!

http://www.cpapauction.com has been around for a couple years and is a sister site to https://www.cpap.com (our host of this forum)

Bee your provider can not sell a cpap without a script -- with that being said -- I have purchased a cpap from a local ad placed on our local internet provider's site. It had 14 hours on it and I gave $150.00 for it.

http://www.cpapauction.com has strict rules and do require bidders to have a script on file before allowing you to place bids on masks and machines

I was curious so I looked it up, the Stardust II is a very early home test machine. Interesting--how did you come by it?

In addition to cpapauction.com there is also secondwind.com. Both require prescriptions of buyers, so they don't run afoul of the law--perfectly legal. But truthfully, there are people selling machines on Craigslist and eBay all the time. Not technically legal, but . . .

Bee, I know you are just giving cautionary advice and this comment is not directed to you, but the government needs to butt the hell out of the way of people who are trying to improve their health on limited budgets! That goes whether it is home sleep study equipment or CPAP equipment!

The prescription requirement for CPAP equipment needs to be dropped. It is a great overreach and disservice of the FDA!

Amen, NightMonkey!!!! I don't need the government to "protect" me from making my own healthcare decisions--I care more about my health and treatment than any bureaucrat does or ever will. Chances are that prices would drop without so much red tape and regulations to pay for.

It's really not about the government. This is more about industry control over a burgeoning market in an attempt to make big money before it becomes commonplace. Ironically, they would make more if it were sold in Walmart. We're in the 'gold rush' phase of sleep medicine. When you can buy one in the local pharmacy, prices will come down and autos will become the standard for at-home titration. If we really want this to change, we as a group need to write our representatives on the issues in the sleep industry to make them aware that undue regulation is hampering good therapy. It's one thing to bellow about it on a forum. It's another thing entirely to take action and make the change happen. Are we just bellowing because it's easy to bark at someone who doesn't share our opinions, or is this really a call to action?

DreamDiver - Thank you for posting these pics. It is said that a picture says 1000 words, well these images say far more than 1000 words.

My entire family has sleep apnea - Mom, Dad, Both Sisters, and one nephew. I thought it would be a great investment to get an at home sleep study device since so many of us are effected. I used it to double check what they were telling use from the lab studies and also to go into more detail looking at different sleep positions VS the number of apneas and hypopneas. My one sister for instance had a 58% drop in occurrence when she was non-supline compared to supline position. I was also able to pre-screen my younger niece and nephews for sleep apnea without having to make all the appointments and go through the hassle and cost of a lab study.

All in all I love this thing and the reports in generates. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to take more control of their health care in regards to sleep apnea, or if your like me and can't get enough data.

This would be useful for those members experimenting with the cervical collars and pillows to keep them from moving out of position.. Or for someone who wonders if they are worse on their back or not.. or how bad they really are if they nap in a recliner, stuff like that. Maybe you could set up a mobile service..

I don't know of any place to sell something like this though. It will have to be a special market I guess.

Hello,

My name is Leon Smeke I'm a physician from Mexico City and am actually looking for Sleep Screening Devices.

Do you still have the Stardust II? If you do, and it still works, what is the price of the machine? Do you have other units (Apnealink Plus, ApneaLink or other brands)?

Please send me the info to salutesmi@gmail.com

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,

Leon Smeke MD
