Power outage

Post by kidzda » Mon Jan 02, 2006 6:07 pm

What is the best thing to do when the power goes out? Do you have to buy a battery operated cpap or is there some sort something that can convert the regular cpap to battery?

You can get a battery backup to plug it into just like for computers. Depends on how often and for how long your power usually goes out.

When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep well?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.' Steven Wright

Excellent question, and you'll find lots of info here. Do a search for "power" or battery and you'll see lots of info about battery options, UPS units, powerpacks, etc. It makes a difference what kind of xPAP unit you have, whether it will run directly on 12volt, whether the HH can be plugged in separately, etc, since the humidifier cannot be run from most battery setups.

In support of the earlier posts ...

Search as ProfSleep suggested but pay particular attention to the issue
of attaching a heated humidifer while running off batteries.

Using a h/h with most brands of xPAP except the Everest AURA require that you use an inverter powerpac which takes 12v battery input & converts it to 120VAC so that the h/h can operate.

If you choose to not use a h/h you can run 12v straight into most xPAPs (both the new & several of the older models).

If your cpap is 12v capable just purchase the 12v connector and crawel into your vehicle and plug it into the accessory outlet. works in a pinch. Otherwise , invest in a 12v battery and keep it charged.
