Advice on choosing new machine

Post by Good2Breathe » Fri Mar 11, 2011 2:35 pm

I'm in the enviable position of being able to choose whatever machine I want and am trying to decide what's best. I've been reading and thought you smart folks might weigh in. I would sure appreciate it as I'm having a hard time making a decision.

I've been on CPAP for 8 or 9 years now at 15 cm and for the last few years have used a Good Knight 420g. I have a Fisher Paykel humidifier, but don't always use it.

The back pressure sensor isn't working so it sometimes kicks itself into idle mode in the middle of the night. I went to the doc, insurance authorized a new sleep study and a new machine - patient's choice. I loved my Good Knight, especially the lower power draw and simplicity to take it camping. If it was still available I would buy another.

As I understand from reading various sources for several days, the newer machines have better software for controlling flow and better reporting.

So I want something as similar to my Good Knight as possible for weight, size and low power consumption so I can take it camping for several days at a time with a jump-start battery but won't mind taking advantage of the newer software and compliance features. Price being no object, what would you learned folks suggest?

I have looked at the ResMed S9, but there seem to be some issues surrounding 12 volt use.

Ideas?

Thanks

They're coming out with a battery adapter to step up from 12 to 24V this summer, from what I heard.
I'd got the S9 Autoset. All machines have their little quirks. Regardless, I think it's pretty awesome.

My Intellipap is lightweight and quiet. It will also work on DC current. I like this machine a lot and want to use it on hunting/camping outtings as well, but I haven't come up with a DC power system yet.

Read up on the Intellipap auto. It might be right for you.

Dear Forum Members,

I am pleased to inform you that we (ResMed) are releasing the 24V DC Converter (PN 36970) for sale to our distributors on Friday, February 25th.

The S9 DC/DC Converter helps you get the most from your S9 when traveling and allows you to run the device, the humidifier, and the ClimateLine from a 12V or 24V DC power source. For many patients, this provides a convenient way to power the S9 directly from a vehicle or to get the best performance when running the system from a battery while camping.

The S9 DC/DC Converter is significantly more efficient than running through an inverter when operating from a DC power source. This means longer battery life for you. Our tests have shown anywhere from 20% to 50% longer operating time than running from an inverter from the same battery.

Thank you to everyone for their interest in the DC/DC converter. We trust that this new accessory will provide you with all the quiet comfort you’ve come to expect from the S9 no matter where you are using it.

Pleasant dreams,
