Is this normal? (Pressure feels low in mornings)

Post by anonymoe » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:28 pm

I've noticed when waking up after anywhere from 6-8 hours of sleep with my Resmed S8 Escape II that the pressure feels very low. I'll open my mouth a little bit to see if my cheeks "puff" like they do when they first put the mask on, and it just feels weak. I'm at 11 cm with an EPR of 3. Is it normal for these machines to drop of the pressure in the morning? Or am I just adjusting to the pressure? Or is my machine malfunctioning? I don't notice any significant leaking around the eyes or mouth.

I'm about to finish week 2 of my CPAP treatment, it's certainly been an interesting ride.

I have that same sensation. I just assumed it was me being used to it at that point

Congrats on finishing week 2. I've been using it for just about 3 months and am still trying to get used to the darn thing.

yes right around 1.5-2 weeks I had the same feeling, you are getting used to it in the morning, after a little longer it feels pretty natural when you put it on.

yep, your body gets used to the feeling as you sleep. There's been plenty of times when I've woken up and had to put my hand in front of the vent to make sure the machine was still on.

I agree with the others. It's amazing how something that blows air in our noses can feel so normal after a while. When I first started, I felt like someone had an air compressor blowing up my nose when I turned it on. Now, it just feels normal. And when I wake up, I often have to concentrate to tell that it's even on. Or, as someone else said, use my hand to feel the exhaust vent to be sure it's on.
