New to cpap- Comfort Gel Full Mask

Post by hmlutes » Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:28 pm

My husband has been using a cpap machine since November of 2010. He was given a large ComfortGel full face mask at his sleep study. After about a month or so, the "stability selector" broke. The mask would attach from the head gear in the middle of the night. After a while, the teeth on the "stability selector" wore down. This mask is the most comfortable for him. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi hmlutes,
Welcome to the cpap board. I don't usually reply to anything, I just read what others have to say. I get alot of advice and help just reading. Sorry I can't help with your mask troubles but someone will come along. I use the Mirage Quattro F/F. No problems except the bridge of my nose gets kind of sore close to the time I need the cushion replace. Good Luck and happy sleeping.

I would suggest you name the mask in the subject line. It will catch the eye of people who are familiar with it. Good luck.

Perhaps this is your problem, It is supposed to come apart at the bar. You will find that if you push the part at the top middle of the horizontal bar that has ridges on it, it will come apart. Perhaps you accidentally pushed it and it fall apart --- I did the same thing then I couldn't get it back together so it would stay togeher. When I finally noticed the ridged tab I got it back together with difficulty as you have to pinch the two pieces together to get it back in, luckily it has stayed together ever since ---of course if I accidently hit it again that is. Hope this works for you, if not call your dme and get them to replace it, perhaps its defective.

Good luck
Nan

I've used the ComfortGel Full in a size medium, also since November 2010. I have the selector adjusted all the way down on the mask. While the 2 pieces wiggle a little bit, and I sometimes inadvertently loosen the selector (raise the 2 parts up), I've never had the 2 pieces actually separate, although I believe that they can be separated for cleaning (I'm not THAT fastidious with cleaning my mask ).

Has your husband moved the selector up or down a notch to see whether the parts stay together? Is this acceptable for his sleeping? If all else fails, it may be time to visit your DME to get a replacement - parts do wear out.

I agree, the ComfortGel has proven itself to be my most comfortable mask. Please let us know how you solve this problem!
